I was surprised today to find out I must be a moderator for a debate during a high school debate convention. I requested for mod-in-training, but they gave me a real job and a training handbook. Hm.
So it would really help me if you guys would debate about this subject, as it would help me gather some hard talking points on both pros and cons so I can keep the debate high quality! Thanks. --> Resolved, that importing prescription drugs from Canada be legalized. Pro: We should legalize the importing of prescription drugs from Canada. Con: We shouldn't legalize the importing of prescription drugs from Canada. Post only if you have a pro or con! No flames! Thanks! |

PRO: Prices are cheaper. If the american pharmacies charged less there wouldn't be such a demand and legalization wouldn't be necassary. With it legalized, americans would have more freedom to freely associate with other countries in trade. Freedom to think and save money to further ourselves in the capitalistic game of which we live. The monopolizing of prescription drugs not only takes away from our freedom it perpetuates the cycle making it harder for struggling families to support themselves. The poverty rate would increase slightly. Freedom would decrease causing a chain reaction making it easier for the government to run the lives of the people, which in fact is the exact opposite of the ideals of which our founding fathers believed. In closing i would like to state that families who can't afford medicine and cannot get the cheaper medicine they need get sicker and eventually die.
CON:Prescription drugs bought in canada takes away from american companies of which the economy's stability thrives. A better economy means a more stable government. Not to mention the companies that benefit from being the sole distrubution for certain drugs they can afford to hire more people. Better and numerous jobs opening up giving the working families an edge to step on and climb higher being more prosperous, sending their kids to better schools creating a more educated generation. More pro's than con's so i am for the legalization. |

cons:
-drug companies in the US use the money from drug sales now to research for other drugs. - drugs from canada may not really be from canada, and may be low quality imports. pros: better economy for canada. people who need expensive prescription drugs benifit. notice the only pro that we really want can be done with a better medicaid and medicare. |
