talk to him.. or else confusion just gets worst and then in the end wen he feels even more serious about you and he falls deeper into the hole it would hurt him a lot more then ... than if you talk to him now.. make sure he knows that as of right now you two are just still friends.. but you don't know what can happen in the future.. and after you tell him that.. ask him if he still wants you to be his partner.. as a friend... i think that that would not be as hurtful as other things.. but it depends on ur own opinion..

I think you should confront him about it. Not in like, a hasty way but pull him aside and ask, you know, what's going on and get things straight before the it becomes a bigger problem.
 Maybe'll it'll disappoint him a bit but atleast you'll stop the false statements from spreading any further.
