This topic is more towards todays middle school children. Why have children today have such huge intent on having a gf/bf? Are they curious about the opposite gender? or is having a temporary soul mate "Just For Show"? Has public media encouraged such relationships at such young age? Or have older kids influenced them?

Why do us human beings "Go Out" with the opposite gender, knowing that we would not marry?
Is it because we enjoy the attention from friends? Or maybe we feel it is required. But WHY?

I am quite amazed at how 12 yr old kids have gf/bfs, I ask myself "why?" and I could never come up with a concrete answer.

NOTE: I write stupid things when I'm ready to go to school agian, lack of girls causes my brain to spaz

I see no point in that either. I think it's just for attention and for show. "Oh look I have a b/gf, I'm so good" stubborn.gif

Also I think they're curious about the opposite sex, and they're horny. Rofl.

i think they just want bf/gf so that they can show off to their friends... like.. "oh i have a bf/gf and you dont! haha!"

well.. and also, if they have an older sibling that has a bf/gf, i think the younger ones would like to know how if feels to have a partner...

Good question.

For me as middle schooler, I think deep down I just wanted to act out what I saw in the movies. I wanted to experience romance but I had no intentions on going too far. I just wanted someone to hold my hand or kiss me and be affectionate with me. So for me, it didn't really have much to do with raging hormones. I was looking for a Prince Charming.

I go out with the opposite gender knowing that there is no possibility of marriage with that person because I'm just looking for fun and something thrilling and satisfying, even if only temporarily. Well, actually how should I know, I've been with the same guy for 2.5 years and I DO plan on marrying him. But I think this is the reason why people like to date around...

I didn't really get into the dating game seriously till like my freshman year in College. Sure I dated here and there, I had my fair share of girls, but now a days I feel like that I am getting mature enough to better myself and find someone that life would be worth being with. When you date you don't think of the possibility that you won't get married, cus if you do think that you are going to break up then why even start a relationship. I went into relationships in high school, just for the company and all that good stuff about a relationship. But, mostly for the experience and the knowledge I need to know for future girls or my wife to be. I say stumble early and the consequences won't be as harsh, but if you stumble in your late years it might be to late.
In middle school, you have many things to influence the way you act. May it be older siblings or friends or even television. But, either way its part of life and its been happening for years and years. It will always happen for many years to come.

Shouldn't this be in relationships?

I think it's more for fun. Sure, some 12 year olds THINK they're gonna marry their 7th grade boyfriend/girlfriend, but some do it more for fun, not for a long-term kinda thing.

I wonder why too. All my friends have bfs then a couple months later they cry at home and look sad in school and write all these weird mushy crap in their profile. Seriouly, why do they want to go out if they know it won't last?? Ehh, maybe they are curious and want to know what true love it. But in my opinion it's hard to find true love in middle school. Probably not everyone is mature (or ready) enough to give it time and patience. They just think 'that guy/girl is cute, now i'm gonna ask them out'.

even though you know the person youre going out with might not be the one and we still choose to be with them is because of the satisfaction and well you never really know if they would be the one you marry or not and as for the 12 year olds going out some probably do feel something and some just want a boyfriend or girlfriend cause everyone else has one or maybe just experience the love

i see what you`re talking about .. its something that has crossed my mind many times. I have a younger sister [14] who`s gone through so many boyfriends within a year! actually, within a span of 6 months she has gone through about 4 or 5 boyfriends. Personally i think its because they feel like its required, in a way. A lot of kids are also tryin to grow up tOo fast, have you seen what some of this girls will wear?! and most of them haven`t even hit puberty! i know that for some, not only younger people but older tOo, feel lonely when they see friends or even strangers coupled up and so they, as a result, feel its sOo important to get a boyfriend or girlfriend.

that maybe true .. but why would they wanna try at young age?! most of them aren`t ready .. if it were up to me i`d say none of them are because they`re still young, why not live up the life free of stress and drama that "love finding" can cause?? shOot, i would in a heartbeat .. live a life stress-free and drama-free .. sign me up!

Snarf. I agree.

Hm. I guess a lot of them just want to show off the fact that they "hooked up wiff sum1" or whatever.. some are curious, and some might just want to know what it feels like.

Eh.
I wasn't desperate for a boyfriend..
I just have crushes a lot, and one happened to like me back. ^_^
