i've been working on a website for a friend of mine. On the site, he has things you can download.. programs and stuff that he made, but he wants it so that u have to have a username and password to download it... kind of like how u have to be an official member on createblog to use their tools... where do i start?

I know what she means, Let me explain it a little better, I also do not know how to do it.

She would like to setup a required Login Name & Password feature, She has Downloads on her website and wants the user to register with her site to download them.

if you check out www.bravenet.com they have a Pager Protector or something, and you add an html to your main page where the person registers & logins. That's probably your best bet!

Hope this helped
Regards,
Nick

php server side authentication would be better than an external hosted authorization method:

no, i want each person to have to actually register so that theyll have their own password. otherwise they could just tell everyone else the pw, and itd be kinda pointless
