Wet Knees Options

People are so caught up in their lives that they fail to realize the things that amplify the joy and wonder of life. When someone, like himself, finally realizes the subtle things that make life a wondrous roller coaster ride that will never end until a fateful day brings you quickly to the unloading dock, things change.
On what was to be a normal day, with normal circumstances, taking normal classes with normal tests, everything became anti-normal. What seemed like an ordinary drive became an adventure through what was once ordinary rain. The rain now held rhythm. He drove in awe of the methodical trickling of "God's tears", as he used to refer to them in his naive adolescence, and he followed the windshield wipers with his pupils, waiting for something conspicuous to happen.

And then it did.

On an ordinary Tuesday morning, in an ordinary rainstorm, on the 5 mile journey to his ordinary campus, something went amiss.

It was a maelstrom; a violent mix of metal and glass, and two 2,500 pound entities smashing into each other with over 45 miles per hour force on each end. Science wouldn't allow you to live; physics would kill you. But he escaped physics. In a matter of less than five seconds, everything in the back of his once ordinary vehicle came leaping toward the dashboard. His body was merely a rag doll, subject to the fate of the giant child playing with it. Cracking every rib his innards claimed, he was hurled head first over the steering wheel that was so cruel on his ribcage, into and out of his once ordinary windshield, and onto the ordinarily ordinary pavement.

Before he could comprehend what had just occurred, he again stared in awe of the blood oozing lawlessly from his once ordinary mouth. The now gaping maw on his face let out his life liquid which mixed beautifully with the oily rain that ran insuppressibly down the once ordinary freeway.

Instinctively, and characteristically, he cared not of what had happened to him. With all the fumes that remained in his gas tank, he made his way to the victim before any other motorist had even considered putting their foot on the brake.

To his sheer dismay, his worst fears came true and fueled his angst. Aghast, he flung open the crunched driver's side door, and aided the limp figure to the ground. Dead on impact.

In one final cry for sanction, he weakly bellowed. "God...save me...” As limp as the exanimate person in his clutches, he dropped to his knees, and closed his one undamaged eye.

The last unordinary thing he noticed was his wet knees from kneeling on the moist cement; it was always a vexation to him as long as he could recall. With soft annoyance, and a gruesome smile, he let out his final sigh, and disappeared into paradisiacal, rapturous, and cherubic bliss, completely aware that his unborn child was due that month.

He was my father, and there is a reason you're now enlightened of these tragic occurrences.

Respect the normality of life; it possesses a sagacity that is unmatchable by any human, and it will let you know. In ways you would never expect on that ordinary Tuesday morning.
