do you think portion size reducing is a good way to fix some of our health issues? do you think it would have a big impact on how people eat? are you more likely to just eat/drink more than one of something if the portion is smaller? tell me how you feel about portion size.

for me reducing portion size would work. if something is smaller, i just eat less. like with these smaller cokes. i don't feel compelled to drink two of them, i just drink less in general because less is there.

cool topic i know. don't hate, going through my tumblr and thinking of shit to make topics about.

We need to reduce our dependence on processed foods if we want to correct any of our country's health issues. Encourage hunting for food, meats like Deer have a much lower fat content than their counterparts, say beef. Even wild boar has less fat than farm-raised pigs.

I don't think reducing portion size will help with most people. I'll continue to drink until I'm not thirsty, not until I'm out of cola.

Kind of since sometimes I do just try to eat as much of something as I can just because I feel bad wasting it even if I am full, but on the other hand if I am still hungry I am going to just eat another of whatever it is I'm eating.

i think it could work. i mean, a lot of people eat not just when they're hungry but because the food is in front of them. so if you reduce the food in front of them, they'll naturally eat less.

but it's probably not going to work on a large scale basis.

I watched an MTV documentary about a family whose children were overweight and started measuring out portions of food to eat at dinner, which did help in helping all of them eat more healthily and pay attention to how much food they actually needed to feel full while getting enough nutrition. But a lot of Americans are too lazy and/or busy to do that and would rather grab fast food or heap homemade food onto their plates, eat, and do whatever they need to do after dinner than using a measuring cup to serve food in recommended amounts.

Yeah, I do tend to just go get more of something even when I'm given a small portion. If I'm still hungry, I keep eating. =\ I don't think it's necessarily the amount as much as WHAT, like other people are saying.

Anyone remember the show "Honey we're killing the kids"?
This made me remember it. Whatever happened to that show?

Anyways. I think portion control may help some people, but not for others. They can just get up and get one more helping or one more can.

I think it'd go a long way. At lunch, I always buy a soda (partly because I like soda, and partly because I'm not enough of a hipster [yet] to pay $1.50 for a bottle of Coca Cola-branded tap water equivalent). They're only sold in 20oz bottles, of course. And I don't want to drink most of it, but I do because, well, it's there. If it came in a 12oz can (like it did when I was a f*cking kid, god I feel old) then I'd be happy with that.

That's the big problem with food in America: it's so cheap that we eat too much of it, and shit like high fructose corn syrup is so cheap that we turn perfectly good corn into sugar and gulp it down.

yeah that's pretty much spot on of how i am. if i get a bottle of soda i drink it because i got a bottle of soda. if i got half that size, then i'd just drink half. i'm just drinking more for no real reason.

this of course doesn't apply to mexican coke, aka my one true love.

If pop is in a bottle I am fine but when it's in a can I feel like shit not drinking it all.

I always wondered is there a reason we do can and bottle and not just pick one?

The thing I hate about soda, bottled water, etc., is all that wasted plastic. My dad told me that back when he was a kid, soda came in glass bottles, and you had to take them back to the store where you bought them. The shopkeeper collected them, and once a week or so Coca-Cola came around and picked up the used bottles. Presumably they were sterilized and re-used. I'm sure that's more of an energy drain than just creating new plastic bottles, but throwing out all those bottles just seems wasteful.

that's why you gotta convert to mexican coke my friend. comes in glass bottles. i take mine back to the store, who knows what happens to them after that though. i'm assuming they take them to be recycled. either way they tell me i can bring them back and i can't imagine them wanting me to do that if they are just going to turn around and throw em in the trash. i don't know that they do that everywhere though, probably not.

tastes better too. made with natural sugar and not high fructose corn syrup.

alright that's my sell. go buy mexican coke everyone. it's way better. join the mexican coke cult.

Is that a New York thing? Because I'm going to be living in NYC soon so I could totally get in on the Mexican Coke thing, even if it is.

haha no, it's not only NYC, it's a lot of places hiding. i think sometimes costco and sam's will sell it. those are the only chain places i've seen it. they recently started getting it at the grocery store i shop at, which is small and not a chain. other than that though i'd look at mexican grocery stores. they usually have it, or if not they can get it. also if you go to a smaller mexican restaurant they will often times have all their sodas bottled, or you can ask if they have any bottled. i got a bottled mexican pepsi just the other day when i went to eat. i think you just have to look around.

to me it's really worth it. i think it tastes a lot better, becasue it's a little less sweet. plus it's just really badass to drink out of a cold glass bottle. i think it completely makes it more enjoyable.

My dad used to buy his beer in glass bottles, and we'd take the cases back to the place and he'd get a small discount for bringing them back (like, a dollar discount) and there are a lot of places around here that still sell drinks in glass bottles and let you return them, but the big supermarkets don't do that.
