i don't really think popularity is important. back inlike 5th & 6th grade that's all we worried about. now i'm pretty much friends with everyone .. and i don't care what others think of me either.

At first when I read this thread I thought I was going to find some deep, insight on how people really view popularity. Not saying a lot of you didn't reply thoughtfully, but the numerous posts filled with "Popular girls are slutty b*tches" is quite disheartening.

I'm not saying your wrong though, you could be speaking from past experience. Many of you said that being popular just means being well-known or having a lot of friends, but the dictionary definition is:

1. Widely liked or appreciated

Okay, we all know that isn't always true because some people are popular, but not widely liked. But that doesn't necessarily mean that just because someone is popular means they're a bitch.

Don't think I'm trying to justify myself -- pigs will fly the day I become POPULAR -- but I actually have a good friend whom you could consider "popular" and well liked by guys, mostly because she's pretty and has a nice body. Because of this, people immediately jump to the conclusion she is slutty, which is way off the mark if you ask me. I find that people who are considered "popular" get it almost as bad as those people sometimes consider "losers" so, really it doesn't matter what level you are on the food chain because we all have to deal with the same **** anyway.

The end.

Screw the popular people. The popular people in my school are always snobby and think they are all that. I try to be anti-popular

not to me. i hang out with mostly dudes so it doesnt matter with them or me.

yeah, in school i mostly hang out with guys, even though most of my really good friends are girls. what sucks is the rumors that end up being spread about me and my guy friends, but thats okay i guess, i wouldnt ditch a friend because of rumors.

uh huh. popularity is a big thing in my school, but in a sense no one actually has any enemies. some of the populars ARE slutty bitches, but that doesnt apply to them all - i am friends with some of them and they are really nice.

ive been at a point where i was really popular, trust me it sucked ass. thre was so much pressure on you. now im in-between a healthy mix of popularity&outcast; which i like. i can back off of my social life whenever i want, but whenever i feel like hanging out with my friends i always can.

no, popularity does not matter! think about all the "popular" people at your school. at my school, they are are all bitches and bastards and they all have no REAL friends because once one of them does something wrong, the other "friend" will just turn around and stab them in the back. so no.

errrrr no. I don't think its popular. well, its 8th grade year for me and our school goes to 6-8th grade, 6th and 7th graders "look up" to the 8th graders -_- so like they think 8th graders r popular, but we're NOT. I kno most of the 8th graders, we just treat each other like a family. well known ppl in my school r VERY nice too

Er, no. We stick up for each other. Some of the girls are like that though. And there's this one gay guy...

Anyway, social status is important to us kids. Sorry for basically double-posting.

my high school is too huge to be popular, it's more if you're popular within different groups and if you know a lot of people.. but with close to 4,000 kids in our school and 1250 in my freshman class this year.. there's not really a 'popular' crowd.

yeah, i guess. mellow.gif it doesn't really matter. i never really noticed until i got slammed into the ground by a horde of seventh graders on sight and won a couple elections where other people should have won. they put in more effort and i didn't at all. ermm.gif

it makes me feel really guilty.

I used to go out with a popular person (in the slut/jock/funny/obnoxious category type of popular), so that's what I'm basically known for. _dry.gif

Otherwise, I'm friends with alot of different people. So yeah, they know who I am, but I'm not friends with the... "plastics", as some call them.

I'm not popular, and I'm proud of that. I have my many friends; I don't need to be known by the whole school or have good connections with everybody to be happy.

In middle school, my school was so small, that everyone knew each other.
The word popular didn't really exist.
But the phrase popular wannabe did.

That seems to be what popularity is elsewhere, in my nice little town there sin't really one popular group, everyone is fairly nice to everyone to their faces, but there is a bit of picking behind their backs. And I guess the only way to know if your popular or not at my school is if you sit at "the table" at lunch haha. It's the best one in the cafeteria right infront of the big window happy.gif Well it's a really long table so lots of people sit at it, but the same people sit at it everyday, and everyone just talks to everyone....I sit at that table, and I'm kinda popular, but really popularity doesn't matter that much, as long as you have friends...
And the non-popular people at my school tend to be the slutty people that sleep around a lot..

I'm kind of popular, I hang out with the 'popular' group, but I'm not really a part of it. I only date boys from it though. Suprisingly, I get alot of boyfriends from there. I'm really friends with everyone though. I have nerdy friends who are more like me, very WEIRD. friends whom I have alot of fun with, and gothy friends who are cool.

i dont care about popularity. bad things usually happens to popular people.and u waste a LOT of $. sereiously stubborn.gif its not a good thing to be popular. like wannabes, they waste their money for
-way expensive sneakers like $80 a pair _dry.gif
-expensive clothing when you can perfectly wear regular clothing
-junk you dont need

why do you need to be popular as long as you have friends that care about you and not your popularity?

people usually become popular because they dont have any friends and act like they're everything.
