i just read the complete series in a week after putting off reading the books for, like, the last 10 years. they were pretty good. i hated the final book though. it was much too rushed and there were far too many coincidences. the writng style is crap, at best.

^you didn't like the deathly hallows? whaaaat. well, i haven't read it in a long while, so maybe i need to re-read it.
but when i'm done, where too next? head to the chamber of secrets :) if you like potter books, what other books are you bound to like? authors? titles? to be honest, harry potter is/was the only type of fantasy type book that i ever got into. i was never into lord of the rings or twilight or narnia or whatever other stuff can be put into the harry potter category. no actually, i'm putting harry potter in its own category because it's toooo amazing. |

I started reading them when they first came out. I couldn't finish the fifth book, because it sucked. So I didn't read the last two.

try the Uglies series. it's not like Harry Potter but it is sci-fi/fantasy/fiction so it'll get your imagination going if that's what you're into.

I've been searching for something similar to the books since the first grade and I've yet to find anything. Narnia has religious undertones which turns me off, Lord of the Rings was boring, and most new series just seem like crappy knockoffs.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini is a great fantasy book if you're into dragons and all that sort of stuff. I started reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy a long time ago but stopped because I didn't have the time to finish. It's pretty good too imo.
I don't know, I'm very much into sci-fi novels too so anything by michael crichton is awesome. |

I didn't think Harry Potter was so much about "coincidences" as it was really well-planned writing with an effort at symbolism and overall thoughtfulness. You can tell by reading the entire series that J.K. Rowling put a LOT of effort into thinking about the books, and she pretty much had the whole plot down pat in the early stages of writing. HP is anything but arbitrary. The Deathly Hallows was like the culmination of answers to nagging questions you had in your head for 10 years - ultimately I was pretty satisfied with how everything was concluded.
Like Teesa said, I can't really offer you anything else to read because, although HP is a fantasy series, it deserves its own category. ANYBODY can read Harry Potter...in fact, I know every type of person that reads Harry Potter. At the end of the day, HP readers have vastly different tastes, except for one common love for HP. In fact, I might even ask you to avoid other fantasy series if you really love HP because you'll just be disappointed, especially if you didn't like fantasy to begin with. |
