I understand how it works, but I would never download anything unless I knew for sure that it didnt have viruses.

I saw torrent links for linux distros but didnt understand what it meant, so I tried it and its a ton faster! Can I still get a virus even though I trust the site?! Like can the connection be altered.

O and are some torrent client things faster then others? Im just using the one built into opera.

Typically what I do is if I'm not sure and it's the only source that might legitimately have what I'm looking for, I quickly back my system up, download the file and install in hopes it's the legitimate file that I've been lookin for. If it ends up being a Virus, I'll quickly unplug my external HDD's USB (better safe than sorry) then run a system restore wink.gif

I would just check the comments of the torrent to see if it's safe. So far I've never gotten a virus from a torrent.

'kay, chances are, if the company itself is giving you a link to download the torrent, then it's fine. You're essentially downloading a file so when you're done, you'll just have a file. You won't have set up a connection with the site or any nonsense like that. So no, you won't get a virus even if the site gets hacked or anything else you can imagine.

There MIGHT be a possibility that it's "hiding" but again, if you're downloading from the company itself, STOP WORRYING. You are such a girl.

A distro.. or the file itself being an .ISO is nothing more but .RAR or .ZIP. So... someone could easily zip a distro or operating system and riddle it with viruses, malware, trojans, etc..

The phony Windows 7 have a file called, "WINDOWS.exe"... Ya that's a virus that will be installed as a normal update before you even log into Windows 7 for the first time.

^ Sue, brian? lol. i bet a lot of people would have already done that.
& i agree with gigi on reading the comments on torrent sites. you can always google search a review on a torrent site to see if it's reliable or not.
