All freshmen entering into Honors English were required to read "My Name Is Asher Lev" by Chaim Potok...

...highly reccomended. But, if you're a dumbass and you don't "get" progressive stuff and that other "wild crazy beatneck crap", screw it, don't pick this title up!

What I'm required for Junior year:

- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- The Color of Water by James McBride

Frankenstein is an amazing book! Nothing like the movie. It's really incredible. The color of water is really depressing...I didn't like it at all.

I thought Anthem was amazingly amazing. I love Ayn Rand's entire philosophy. Can't say that I exactly follow it, but it impresses me that she can create an entire philosophy on her values.

So last year summer reading, we had a choice from:

-Cold Sassy Tree
-Persuasion
-The Count of Monte Cristo

I read Cold Sassy Tree. It was decent, kinda simple for me, but I loved Rucker's view on death. Amazing.

The Giver is actually one of the best books I've read in a long time. I actually quite liked the ending, since it's not typical and it makes you think.

yes the benefits of not being in highschool is NO SUMMER READING.

I had to do summer reading in the summer from 5th to 6th grade on "A Wrinkle in Time" for seminar. "A Connecticuit Yankee in King Arthur's Court" was optional for the next summer, and then my teacher forgot for the next...

Didn't have any for 8th to 9th. But for English II CPA this summer, I have to read "A Separate Peace" and do a whole packet. And an essay on it during the first week of school. *sigh*

I finished Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I'm about halfway through The Picture of Dorian Grey, but that means I'm not really anywhere near the "other words" by Oscar Wilde that are in the back of the book. Dorian Grey > Dr. Jekyll. I really need to figure out what I'm reading for extra credit...

I got a whole list which had 18 choices of books for 9th grade. I had to choose two from the list and then one on my own and write these book logs for them.

The books that I picked were :

1) Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
2)Tears of a Tiger - S.M. Draper
and the book I picked on my own was The kidnapping of Christina Lattimore.

As for recomandations.. I heard that Memiors of a Geisha was really good.
