A trained human can win a fight with almost any animal. Take a grizzly bear, for example. Sure it's slightly stronger, but it lacks agility and a trained human can run faster than it can turn, so all one needs to do is simply run circles around it while delivering strikes to weak points such as its groin.
If being charged, say by a lion, you would want to backpedal in a diagonal fashion, facing the creature. At the last second, charge forward diagonally. As the beast skids past you, deliver a spin kick to a vulnerable area, such as its groin. |

That should just add to my argument that it's sound advice, though. |
