I know that there was a similar topic to this once upon a time, but I figured it's been a while and wanted some fresh opinions.

In your opinion(s):

What do you consider "bashing"?:

What do you consider not bashing, just brutally honest?:

When, in your opinion, should a moderator punish for bashing?

Have you had your Wheaties today?

Good starting point, Mr. Capulong! Now, would that be bashing of Wheaties or just an honest opinion of losers?

What do you consider "bashing"?: totally unnecessary name calling...i'm guilty of this sad.gif

What do you consider not bashing, just brutally honest?: well, i guess when something's true. it's kinda self-explanatory.

When, in your opinion, should a moderator punish for bashing? when it goes too far and someone's feelings get hurt, or someone gets annoyed or angry.

Have you had your Wheaties today? no.

I don't even think when Tung warned me that it was member bashing. I can't even say my own opinions about a member here on CB without being reprimanded for it.

My opinion is that member bashing is when I randomly attack a forum member just because I dislike them. My thread, for example, was not just a random attack. Both illmortal and I built up to that because we had differing opinions on shit.

Now, I don't even hate illmortal. I think he's a nice guy to talk to, especially on AIM. But if I can't even call him a f*cking twat because I disagree with his shit, that's just sad. Tung's reason for warning me was "no need to call people twats and ignorant"

I can't even call people ignorant now? Obviously illmortal was angry as well, and yes, we probably could've been more mature with it. However, I don't think warning and closure of my thread was warranted.

I believe mods should only step in when necessary. When I say "only when necessary", I mean mods should hardly interfer with the name calling at all. You guys are not parents, you are all just here to make sure CB isn't spammed by guro pictures. If you continue to interfer with the way the members act and react towards other members, you stump individuality and characters in CB. This, I promise you, makes CB a BORING place.

I'd only warn a member when he illicitly follows around another member just to verbally assault him.

-edit
BTW, I already PM'd two admins about this shizz, but you guys haven't answered yet. (Busy, I understand.) I'd like to request that I be put on the staff alumni group since I indeed was a moderator on this site. (I think I moderated as early as before xangans became CB.)

Thanks.

Mods, stay the shit out of our lives and I promise you CB will be more interesting, and we'll have life back in it. Yes, there will be cliques and there will be members who are going to be loners and just generally hated. However, you can't just stunt the growth of this website just because you don't want a member to be butthurt about another member's comments.

I promise you, mods. I'm pleading with you. Stay the f*ck out of the members interactions with other people until it's absolutely necessary. Even when necessary, use caution and tread lightly.

bashing is attacking people randomly, or taking un-random arguments too far. i don't care if people get worked up for a few posts when they are debating or something, but there's a limit where they should stop and call it even with the bashing shit. if someone is randomly being attacked, the mods should intervene, becuase that's part of their job to do so.

i still don't understand why people have a such a problem controlling themselves.

Gosh, you know, I've actually been thinking that in general, mods are way more relaxed than they used to be. I remember when Suzzette (sorry to bring her up, I don't mean her any insult) was on staff and things were like wayyyy more strict.

I really don't see moderators warning much, at least that's my impression when I go through the warning thread (Backstage).

Please don't think that this is me, backing up staff no matter what they do. That's not what I'm about at all. The reason why I started this thread is to see what the community impression/interpretation of bashing and what not is, as it relates to forum interaction. I like getting the community opinions, always have.

"Stunting growth." It's kind of interesting that you put it that way. When I first joined here, people were really friendly, for the most part. I mean, I'm very old for this site and not one person made fun of me, alienated me or made me feel unwelcome. I remember thinking how cool that was. Fast forward a couple of years and people seemed to not be as welcoming to those who are new. Now, I think that that things are much friendlier, especially if newer folks take the time to get to know people. That's just a general feeling I'm getting though.

Dangit, I guess the Wheaties question was a bad idea. haha Honeycombs are ok, but I prefer Frosted Flakes or Frosted Shredded Mini Wheats.

For a 'stoned' response, I thought it was a great reply, by the way.

Honestly, the mods should be more concerned about how to make CB a better site. The mods should be posting and leading by example. Instead of just posting, mods should be trying their best to create threads that inspire creativity and activities. There are a lot of mods that obviously don't have leadership skills. Some don't even have decent thought processing skills.

That being said, I don't understand why a mod would warn someone for calling another member a "twat" instead of trying to contribute to CB in a positive way.

This is a community, mods. It's not just a forum for you guys to regulate.

-edit
BTW, thanks for the group change.

BTW, I will agree that the mods have been doing a great job regulating. By that, I mean that they aren't regulating. That's a good thing.

However, I still think mods should be more active in the forums. I believe that if you're going to take a responsibility to moderate a community, you should be willing to be an active member of said community as well.

I'm also just a little irked that I was warned for calling someone a twat.
