i wrote this a few years ago while i was going through my francesca lia block craze faze. it's not a poem, but it's not a story. quite frankly, i don't really know what it is.
Lilly dressed me up, head to toe in glitter glistening brighter than the sun. I followed timidly as she pushed her way through the crowd. I felt like a prisoner and she was death - leading me to the depths of hell. Maybe that was what it was. Bodies pressing, writhing, rubbing, I could smell their sweat on me and tried to hold my breath. The need to breathe won out. She lead me to Hades, ruler of the Underworld, prince of death. His black eyes glistened, like the glitter on my body and his lips curled. “Who is this?” his voice asked, detached from the rest of him. I knew by looking at his stern nose that he already knew yet I answered him. “Nobody,” I bowed my head. Even with my eyes closed, I could feel his smirk. Lilly laughed, something else that glittered. No, you’re not, she giggled. Tell him. I stayed mute, listening to the laughter in his eyes. When I said nothing, Lilly smiled and opened her lips wide to proclaim: Here is the sun you’ve been searching for, Hades, don’t you remember? You wanted light for your dark chambers. “Ah,” his voice prompted my eyes to open once again and when they looked up, they realized that his eyes had never left my face. I blinked and averted my gaze. The darkness was blinding. Seconds, or perhaps hours, faded into nothing and I felt a hand on me, clawed fingers, ice cold touch. I looked down and almost checked to see if his feet were cloven, but Hades was wearing shoes. “Come with me,” his voice was silky like water and my legs felt wobbly because I never learned to swim. That night he took me to his chambers and showed me what a party was really like. Music thumping, hips grinding, lips parting, panting, prying, teeth clashing, teeth gnawing, pain, pain, euphoria. His hands left burning marks upon my skin and I felt branded forever. His tongue was forked and thin, like a snake's but longer, it flickered in my mouth and slipped down my throat, all the way until it grabbed my heart and squeezed. He told me that he’d never had the sun and wondered what it’d feel like. He said I felt like flowers. And then there was no more talking as our mouths fused into one and he took me like he owned me except maybe more. The glitter on my dress, on my skin, in my hair, rained all over the room, casting sparkles among the shadows and when I stared over his shoulders I saw the glitters on the ceiling and thought about the stars. He whispered about oblivion and I wondered if maybe that was what he meant. And then I said I love you like they did in the movies and he threw his head back and laughed as if it were the funniest thing he had ever heard. We laughed together at the absurdity. When it was all over he said that he had fun. And then I left the darkness and the glitters in his room, back to the sweaty piles of bodies writhing to the beat and out the doors to the coolness of the night. Alone in my room, I thought about it. About hell and Hades and parties and I love yous and glitters in oblivion. I thought that maybe… I would do it again tomorrow. And fell asleep with a withered smile upon my lips. |

I didn't realize it looked so long, but I started to read it and scrolled down. I read it all anyways (yes, this is a compliment). I love how descriptive it is.
