Im having real trouble deciding between these two computer option sI have.

A: I could buy a 20" iMac as well as cheap netbook with internet just for when I go on vacation or it might be helpful to take to places when i have to stay there or im bored.

B: I could buy a 13" macbook.

The reason im leaning towards the imac is cause i dont leave that often and dont need a computer on the go so much.
But then i cant take it on the bed and other stuff which is annoying.
But i dont want the laptop cause it has a 13" screen which is smaller then i have ever used.
And im not sure if im allowed to bring a computer to my school to take notes.
(and it would be very acward. Its kinda like a small school and we all sit around one table and everyone else just uses a pen and paper.

So what do you guys think.

The only time i would ever leave the house with my pc is vacation, and traveling.
Im in s real pickle crazy.gif help.gif

O and what r u using right now? laptop/desktop?

Okay I don't like you but I'll help you out. Why do you want to go with mac? I use a macbook and a PC, and tbh I'm no computer guru in the sense that the OS / software matters to me that much. Are you going for performance, looking cool, OS preference, what? What's your price range?

If you don't have to have a macbook or iMac, you can get a more powerful laptop that's not a mac if you buy well, not a mac. Don't get me wrong I'm not dissing mac, but if I had a choice of laptops now I'd probably go with a considerably more powerful laptop for the same price.

I had a desktop/laptop combo setup once and it was cool. Now I'm strictly a desktop user because of how I live but a laptop does have its advantages. It takes seconds to set up shop and start using a laptop. but for a desktop, it'll take me over half an hour to hook up the monitor, internet, and peripherals to the way I like it.

I'd go A so you can have the best of both worlds

Netbooks are quite underrated imo

It's not because you're jewish, it's because I don't think very highly of you intellectually :]

Vista, for your intents and purposes, is not going to assrape you and call you shirley. Computers nowadays are outfitted to support vista, as opposed to installing vista on an older machine that barely meets the requirements. I got my brother a laptop for christmas, vista, and it runs perfectly. Newegg is your friend.

You can take my word on this matter, but if Mipadi corrects me, I don't believe an argument will ensue.

I've seen my staff sergeant bring it to work and he plays with it pretty much everyday

Really, what is a netbook but a miniaturized laptop? So basically it has more or less the same capabilities that a laptop has.

But since it's smaller, it's more along the lines of a Portable Media Player in that it can play music and videos in a fairly large screen (or larger than conventional PMPs)

Also since it's smaller it is now more convenient to use a netbook as a portable storage device as well

Really unless you want a portable gaming device (i.e. PSP or $2000+ laptop) then I would get something like this

To be perfectly honest. It's not that necessary to even have a mac, yeah, there are a lot of great things about them, if you're going to use them to their full potential, but for just internet, and a few other things, having a PC, is the same thing, and 65% of the time, cheaper.

Option A sounds like the best option for you, as you said, you don't leave home often, and a laptop will not meet your 100% satisfactory needs. Keep in mind though, that a netbook is 99% of the time smaller than a laptop.

If you would like to read up on netbooks/minis there are a couple of threads here that offer some discussion.

I have wanted to get a mac for a long time. The netbook will not be my primary computer. Im going to look for the cheapest one possible and ill only use it for when i travel.

Honestly, why does it matter, and why do you care? You're acting like a Windows PC is the default option, and anything else has to be justified.

i disagree with people saying if you're just going to browse the internet and stuff you don't need a mac. why would anyone want to browse the internet on a pc when they could do it on a mac _unsure.gif

Well if he's trying to get a cheap computer ot play video games then I would tell him to go with a windows laptop over a mac laptop. I don't mean for it to come off that way, but I know I'd rather play with 1gb of video ram over what the macbooks have.

this is my cheapness coming, but macs do tend to be the more expensive choice, haha

I'd just get the 13" MacBook. It's a good computer, and you'll probably end up wanting to take it places. You can always plug it into a larger external monitor if you really don't like the screen size (although the screen isn't too bad).

back in the day i was nervous about getting it based on the screen too, because it was smaller than any i'd had. once i got it though the screen was so clear and bright that i didn't think twice about it after that.

Honestly we can't force you towards a choice. We can only offer suggestions that would help influence your decision

Neither of these are bad choices. However, even I would pick choice A because I was a barracks rat (basically staying at home like you) and I never felt like leaving base (it was in the desert, a good 60 miles from any civilization) and I had both a desktop and a laptop, and I would use the desktop 99% of the time I was at the barracks. The other 1% were the times I drove to San Diego and I took my laptop then.

But like mipadi stated, it's not like the 13" Macbook can't also utilize additional accessories like a external monitor/keyboard to have it behave like a regular desktop if you so wish. Most of the workstations at my current shop are actually laptops enclosed in a desk tray with a CRT sitting on top of it. Then we plugged in regular keyboards and mice and then it became more or less a regular desktop. It's just that with choice B you end up spending more money to equal the setup of choice A but you will have a more powerful portable device in the long run

But you know, it's up to you

AHHH!!! Now im leaning towards a laptop! O what to do...
I do have to say id love having a laptop and when i think about it 13 inches aint to bad.
But its just, staring at it all day...Does it ever get tiresome?
But i am leaning towards a lapptop now.

But still a MAC!

I just cant afford a macbook pro.

It's about as tiresome as staring at anything else, a laptop doesn't make much of a difference

As long as you view the screen at eye level you will be fine

I know you said you're for mac, but I'm just tossing out another option :]

1100 - 1 gb video ram, 4gb ram, 250gb hd, 15.4 inch screen

Then the older macbooks are down to 999.

I have just sort of always wanted a desktop that has a mighty mouse and might keyboard.

So now my 3 options are
1. 17" pc laptop with vista
2. 13" mac laptop
3. 20" iMac

So i really havent gotten anywhere and im very indecisive...

The best possible thing would be a imac with a macbook air. haha
But i could never afford that.

Buy it from macmall.com, not from apple. K? They'll save you some money

I bought an 80GB Classic Ipod from them for 175.00 on black friday, which is normally a lot more expensive than even the touch.

Are they refurbished?

I still think you should go with the 13" MacBook. They're pretty awesome -- I dated this girl who had one, and it was sweet. I'd replace my iBook with one, too, if I had more money.
