I drew the image freehand with a colored pencil and a misprinted paper. All the coloring was done in photoshop on a second layer on top of the scanned image. I added textures, which I ended up varying in color for different parts of clothes, eyes, hair, etc. By chance, I ended up with the neat effect that you see there when I used a screened layer of a different texture. The second image is done with a screened layer of a different color over a jpg of the first.
