You want it to be brighter? Try making a new layer, fill it with white & set the blending mode to Overlay. See if that works.

I think it looks fine as far as brightness though. That's just me though :)

okay, i went to graphics help to ask how to make this picture more brighter.. it didn't turn out so good. and i want to know anything bad about this picture so i can fix it.. cause it's kinda of grainy.. if you see closely, like it's been sharpened too much, but the picture is naturally like that.. any bad things about this picture? i want to fix it.

what i dont' like is that how it's really dark.. like my skin tone color, when it's really not that color. i tried editing it, and it's too grainy... anything else negative about this picture?? please comment! thanks (:

If you want to make it brighter and less orange, can't you just adjust the colour balance and brightness/contrast? =\

You can adjust the curves and then do a photo filter on it. Then if you're unsatisfied, do selective colouring / colour balance & gradient maps?

I got this [ http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/6185/89923471jo2.jpg ] after playing around with it using the methods above.

If you want to remove the grainy-ness and bad-quality of it, my suggestion for you is to use the smudge tool. Basically you set it on a small soft brush (4px? maybe) and set the flow/opacity to something like 30% and just play around by smudging. Eventually your picture will look smoother if you do it right. I can't find a tutorial for it so that's the best I can do at explaining, lol.

Basically do whatever people have already suggested and hope for the best.

It would be that simple if the image was of high quality, and lit properly (also I wouldn't suggest using Brightness/Contrast because in order to lighten, you'd up the Brightnes, but then it would be washed out and then you'd have to up to Contrast, and then it would just look waaaaay too saturated. Color balance can't fix something that extreme. I'd rather use Curves or Levels).

Unfortunately there is never a quick fix for a shitty image to begin with. I'd advise for you to just take a well-lit picture next time, turn on the flash, don't crop a small part from a large image, use natural lighting, etc..there's only so much you can do with Photoshop before you have to go into manip territory, i.e., the moment you have to use the smudge tool because your image is too grainy because of crappy lighting.

Maybe you can try softening it a bit and then up the birghtness a little bit too and maybe up saturation if you want. Yea and I would also adjust the color balance a bit too. :)

Here's a little something I made out. I don't know if you'll like it but I tried. :)
