i've decided it's time that i use the hundreds of eyeshadows i own, so i started experimenting with them tonight and found that it ended up looking MESSY, like i was unable to control the power and it just flew everywhere - i couldn't limit it to one spot. i always tap my brushes off, but still it didn't look nice and clean. stubborn.gif i wanted to achieve something like this girls: http://boldlooks.com/db2/00190/boldlooks.c.../SmokeyEye2.jpg ... nothing too dramatic.

The simpliest way to do something like that is to choose three different shades of the same color. Use the medium shade over your eyelid, then brush the darker shade over the crease of your eyelid. Just sweep the brush over the crease and little bit above the crease, but don't go up to the brow bone. Then, use the lighter shade to highlight the browbone and you could always use a bit of the lighter shade on the inside of your eyes, like she did.

Sometimes, though, if you have a color that doesn't compliment your skin and eye color or you just have a crappy brand of eyeshadow, you won't get the results you want.

Your powder could be "flying everywhere" because you're not using an eyeshadow base. Eyeshadow base helps your shadow stick to your eye, making the colour more intense and making the shadow last longer as well. If you have non-oily lids, using just a cream eyeshadow or even eyeliner can work wonders on a crappy eyeshadow that isn't pigmented.

I highly, highly recommend Urban Decay Primer Potion, though, if you have oily lids and experience creasing.

The girl in the picture looks like she used a medium-dark gray colour all over her lid up to her crease, a dark, almost black colour right in the outer corner and slightly into the crease, and a light shimmery shade on her browbone and the inner corner. And of course eyeliner.

What brushes are you using?

i spend too much money on products, they definitely aren't crappy. i only use MAC brushes and i primarily use MAC and NARS eyeshadow. i was thinking of picking up the urban decay eyelid primer next time i'm in sephora, thanks!

No, I meant what brushes are you using, not what brand. Fluffy blender brush? Flat, dense brush? Etc.

UDPP is awesome, definitely get it. You might prefer Too Faced Shadow Insurance though, which is essentially the same but not as good with preventing creasing.
