You know, the admins can't be on 24/7. ;) (I'm not sure who was on at the time, to be honest).

I agree though that Cristy is terrific.

Here is a question for the staff:

Why the hell do you reject images for reasons such as "the grass is too sharp" or "the clouds stick out too much". This is not criticism, this is a personal opinion that is nowhere near a design status. Number one. It's BLADES of grass for a reason. Sharp kinda comes with the equation. and how can I take "the clouds stick out too much" as a "helpful" criticism? How is this helpful? I understand rejecting an image if the quality is bad or if the image is stolen, however "the grass is too sharp" or "i don't like the dress on the girl" is an absolutely retarded reason to reject an image. Keep personal opinions out of the "criticism" you seem to be giving and leave it at design quality HELPFUL feedback.

Those are comments that have to do with the composition and overall aesthetic of the design, which is something that we check for as much as low quality graphics and pixelation. You can't expect us not to have standards for aesthetic.

And just to clarify, we aren't actually required to provide any "helpful" feedback or any tips on how you can make your submissions better. We're only required to tell you the reason why it was rejected.

This is a resource site, not show and tell, and we aren't your art teachers.

Hmm.. feel free to PM me about this, but that sounds like it is helpful criticism.

However, to give you the benefit of the doubt if you are ever unhappy with a rejection notice you receive you are always welcome to PM another design staffer, a head staffer, or an administrator to get a second opinion.

I would recommend letting us know either in PM or in this thread which image was rejected and perhaps quote the notes you received on it. I can do my best to give you some insight and perhaps let you know why it was rejected if I do in fact feel like it should have been.

edit; Let me add that the things you mentioned were personal opinions by the staff member were actually legitimate reasons as to why (now, having seen the graphic in question) the piece was rejected. Staff members, when going through the queue, are expected to act as sort of representatives for the rest of the community. We accept things that we feel are up to standards and that the community will like. In contrast, we reject things that we feel will not be as well-received by the community. When you receive reasons as to why those things were rejected, they will seem like personal opinions. But trust me - our staff members are staff members BECAUSE we trust their opinions.

Thank you Trish & Dani

Written4you, I wrote you back just to let you know.

I'm sorry if you didn't feel like I was helpful enough, but next time if you want advice about your graphics post them in the showcase to get opinions and perhaps a helpful hand in fixing anything if there is a problem with the overall image.

Trish and Dani, I actually PMed you a link to one of the images she submitted so if you would like to tell me your opinions of it, I told her I would PM them to her. Unless you want to PM them to her yourself, feel free.

Yea I believe she was. I mean the way she used exclamation points a few times gives me the vibe that if I was in front of her she would have raised her voice.

HEY MODS. WHERE'S YOUR CONSISTENCY?
I think that Ruth's been on staff long enough to know the rules.

I think it's okay if Tung leaves the picture in since it's not on this page. shrug.gif

Well I have to say that she was a bit questionable about it, but personally I would have let it slide shrug.gif Having img tags on the same page is annoying but if the picture isn't on the other page then I could see that as being fine. My opinion of course, so ignore me xD

but that means that staff isn't being consistent enough about it. first telling people to take all img tags out no matter from whatever pages the pictures are from. and now, it's like "oh it doesn't matter THAT much." there needs to be more consistency here. if staff is going to follow the rules, then they NEED to follow the rules.

Of course, I agree with you Yanlin. And I can see why you think this, if staff did say that ALL img tags need to removed than all tags need to removed.

Can we have rules about deleting topics? Trish is ridiculously abusing that power. Topics used to never disappear unless they were blatant spam and weren't needed.

Oh yea and it would be great if moderators (especially those higher up) were not signed in as invisible. That way we can see which moderators are active and which are not. It would be nice if certain moderators who are called out would at least reply in the topic in which they are being called out upon. Being anonymous doesn't mean one should avoid a topic.

Although, maybe topics should be considered RESOLVED when BOTH SIDES agree that it's resolved. It would be detrimental to some members, if not to many members, if a topic was considered resolved, but clearly it was half-assed in regards to being resolved.

I'm going to talk about img tags (again) with the rest of the mods backstage. For now, I'm leaving it.

Thomas – I think it was me that you chatted with, although I think we were chatting about threads that were lingering around when either the questioned had been resolved or the member hadn’t returned to their thread in a long time and the concern was that these threads were just sitting in the Resource Center subforums. I know that has been brought up before and that things should be cleaned out in the Resource subforums. We’re a bit short on design staff right now and while that isn’t a great excuse, the queue and answering questions are their priority. I want to let you know that I haven’t forgotten that conversation though. Regarding pinned/time sensitive topics. Yes, we should be doing a better job with maintaining those. Thank you for the feedback.

Invisibility – I’m visible now! hahaha I don’t find it to be a big deal, but if seeing who is and isn’t online (when it comes to moderators) is important to the community, I think that it’s a small request to make and an easy enough request to honor.

To image tag or not to image tag! For some reason it is sticking in my mind that if the picture was on a page previous, that it was reasonable to have the image reposted. I’ll need to check around the forum to see why that is in my brain. Having said that, if not everyone is moderating consistently, I can see why that would be confusing and frustrating. Ruth did bring this up Backstage and we’ll get on the same train of thought so that things can be handled more evenly.

(PS, I actually typed this post in Outlook at work and am copying my response into this thread (since my internet time is limited at work). If I have missed anything brought up, I apologize and will read over the past few pages of Mod Feedback to ensure that people at least get their concerns acknowledged).

Also, as an aside, I have a great number of things going on in my personal life. As such, I simply cannot be here as often as I might have been formerly. As things get resolved personally, I’ll do my best to be here more, contribute more and see things/issues through more.
