^ bad news for psp fans

Man, i'm really hoping for backward compatability with the next nintendo console. Nintendo has yet to make a console that was backward compatible with one of their older consoles.

i love how the PSP is called a portable yet you have to plug it into a wall when playing at home, because the battery life is so low.

OMG PSP IS SOOOOOOOO GOING TO BE BETTER!!! That huge LCD screen with its high resolution (drool)! Its better that PS2 graphics on those delectible UMD discs!! WOOT! Ur also going to be able to play movies that come on the UMD discs WOOO!!! Who wants a shitty DS where u have to look at 2 screens to play? Who wants a fat clamshell covered in 5 lbs. of plastic? Who wants to hold a stylus while playing games??? Who wants graphics between n64 and ps2? NOT ME!! The only thing DS has on the PSP is the game selection and the price! biggrin.gif

HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

Who wants to play with a portable that's plugged into the wall, and if it isn't, the battery dies in 1 hour?

Who wants to blow $400 in one shot?

Who wants their handheld to break in 2 years?

If you said yes, you want a PSP.

Now,

Who wants a handheld that is made by a company that has been making handhelds for 20 years?

Who wants a handheld that has a great library of games?

Who wants a handheld which has wireless lan capabilities?

Who wants a handheld with a touchscreen, stylus and voice recognition, with plenty of possibilities using the three?

The choice is the DS for me.

Are u kidding, look at nintendos line up they only got like pokemon games, mario games, zelda games, all the usual crap, nintendo seriously needs to grow some balls and get some new indes, they only made a few risks, i mean they're a good company they reintroduced console gaming, but they need more just like how segas cd system introduced an actual good cd system,
sure the small disk for gc was cool, and sure a stylis and 2 screens is cool (but if u think about shooting with a sylis is either way 2 hard or way 2 ez and takes out the fun) but still p2p is actually more about having a big big portable gadget mulittasking but nintedos about the fun adn stuff which is cool too (techno people like me would go for the PSP) so it will actual be close except that alto of people buying ds i think would be little kids and like 40 year old dudes into nintendo ever since it came up with soul patches, while psp is for like everybody

1) Theyre games include MUCH more than just those games. Lets take a look at some impending DS titles:

Animal Crossing
Mario Kart
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Nintendogs
PictoChat
Super Mario 64x4
WarioWare, Inc.
New Super mario bros.
Add to that - Yu Gi Oh! Troubadour
Spider-Man 2
Gundam Seed
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
And impending Sonic games.

Not only is that lineup incredible, but it has something for EVERYONE. That is what Nintendo is about, the GAMER. Sure, occasionally it has more family oriented games, but who doesnt? Even the PS2 has their Britney Spears and Olsen games. But the Mario and Zelda games are more than just for kids, theyre for EVERYONE, and not only do they spand a great audience, but they also revolutionize gaming along the way. Then we'll take Metroid Prime, one of the best single player console FPSes around, and equip it not only with four player wireless action, but a stylus pen to shoot with?! My god that is amazing.

Nintendo is making a HUGE risk with this right now. Many people are crying "Virtual Boy" and "Dreamcast" with this one. But I definitely think it will be a huge success, and will touch the gamer much more than the PSP ever could.

Wait. You're saying Nintendo needs to make more software titles? How many great software titles has sony developed? Sony makes its living on third party developers. That's why you don't see as many exclusives for sony consoles as you do on nintendo consoles. The thing is, i thnk the PSP is going to be like the N-gage. It multitasks, but can't do anything exceptionally well. The DS will do one thing, and do it great. If you want all these features, you might as well buy a Sony Clie. It's a great personal entertainment device and PDA.

I personally don't care where sony gets there titles, third-party or otherwise. DS will be cool, if you're like, 10. Nintendo aims at younger gamers, it's been that way. And it will stay that way if they have any sense, because they don't have the hardware to compete.

You see a lot of exclusives on nintendo systems because nobody wants to put money into a doomed console. And the N-Gage didn't fail becaue it didn't do things well, it failed because it costs too much. Still does.

There really isn't any debate on which system is better, hardware-wise. PSP beats DS in too many areas. But I, personally, wouldn't buy a system on just hardware (that's why I have a PS2 instead of Xbox). But I like Sony's lineup better anyway, so that's where my money's going.

Since when exactly? I've never known Nintendo to be aimed at younger gamers. Especially not ten year olds. If you even look at the gaming lineups for Nintendo, throughout ANY of its systems, you see there is a moderation of every genre, and every age group. Just because Nintendo doesnt concentrate wholly on the young adult/adult age group does not mean its aimed at younger gamers. Id like to find one 10 year old who could beat Zelda, or Mario, or Metroid.

Their hardware has always been amazing. With the first 32 bit system. With the command over the handheld market. Even the GameCube's graphics are so much better than the PS2, and I wouldnt blame that on time either. Nintendo hardware has always been top notch, and always will be.

You see alot of exclusives on Nintendo systems because Nintendo is ballsy enough to make its own games. Doomed systems? GBAs sell more than PS2s most of the time. The GameCube sold over five million consoles this past holiday season. The GameBoy series has ALWAYS defeated ANY handheld that came their way. Tell me where there is a doomed system.

And the N-Gage didnt fail because it cost too much. Sure, it did, but the thing also sucked balls. Horrid graphics, horrible as a cell phone, it just wasnt what gamers wanted nor neaded. Its not quite the time for the N-Gage.

Show me the areas, and I'll believe you.

The N-Gage doesn't strike me as a great cellphone. It looks stupid when you hold it up to your face.

And what lineup are you talking about? The only game that is confirmed coming out for the PSP is Metal Gear Ac!d. Meanwhile Nintendo has released a long list of games that will be out during the launch of the DS.

Not all are guaranteed launch titles, but confirmed nonetheless.

where did you ever find this figure? battery length is very vague right now, but you can be sure it's more than one hour. the figure that sony threw out was 10 hours for gaming.

QUOTE

sony also hasn't released any sort of a price point yet.

QUOTE

that's like saying who wants an mp3 player to break in 2 years...but look! people still buy the ipod!

okay, bad example. but you don't know anything about the durability either, so stop making things up out of thin air.

QUOTE

experience in a field tends to help, but it could be a detriment as well. Notice that a game boy is generally regarded as a very kiddie thing to have. another example i have is criterion game's black for ps2 and xbox -- criterion has never made a shooter, but it seems (from what i've read) incredible.

but i will admit that this is a good point.

QUOTE
Who wants a handheld that has a great library of games?

you could go for psp or ds on this one; it depends on your taste.

QUOTE
Who wants a handheld which has wireless lan capabilities?

um, everyone i guess, because the PSP HAS WIRELESS LAN TOO.

source: "Additionally, the new system comes standard with USB 2.0 and 802.11b Wi-Fi wireless LAN connectors that allow for multiple PSPs to be simultaneously connected to one another. Data and software can then be downloaded either by using the wireless LAN connections or through the use of a Memory Stick Pro Duo."

QUOTE

tapware zodiac has all of those. but nobody knows about it. why? because the games sucked.

and that's the only thing that matters, really, unless you think the simple sexiness of the psp will be enough to tide you over.

Not...really. Everyone in my high school has one, and often plays them during studyhalls and class. Its not kiddy at all to be sitting around playing Golden Sun or Advance Wars while learning about Newton's theories of physics.
QUOTE

Sony is notorious for crappy hardware. Look at the broken PSXs and PS2s. Sony has this timed obsolesence thing going on.
QUOTE

I think he was referring to the fact that at E3 the only playable demo was Metal Gear Acid, while the Nintendo DS had many-a-demo.
QUOTE

How can you say that it would be a detriment? This is the GAMEBOY we're talking about. It's had a fifteen year reign as the number one handheld in existence. Its knocked down competitior after competitior. Hell, sometimes it even sells more than the three big nex gen consoles!

And just to be clear, the ACTUAL PSP is NOT sexy, and NOT pretty at all. Those pictures that Sony released a while back are NOT the real PSP.

"Nine have tried. Nine have failed"
Really, enough said.

that is the psp.

in my high school, if you play a game boy, you're immediately dismissed as a dork and loser.

not very fair, but that's how it is.

about the experience thing -- did you not read what i said AFTER that quote? address that, at least!

Alright alright. I already replied about the kiddie statement once. As for the Criterion game, lets assume this is a good game. Im not saying that all things that are new to companies are going to suck, or even the PSP. It might be great. But that doesnt mean that the DS wont be better. Sure, maybe the Criterion game, I forget the name at the moment, is great, but is it better than say Doom? or MOH? or Half Life? etc etc.

Meanwhile, the GameBoy has a HUGE fanbase, a HUGE following, and Nintendo fans have loyalty.
