programs not starting. Options

ok, here's the story.

yesterday evening, the power went out. my computer went off and such (i don't have it set to restart, that would be pointless), but the only programs I had running were yahoo and windows media player. I restarted it later (around 10ish?), and everything was working fine. the power was only out for about 30 seconds.
then it went out yet AGAIN later last night, around 12. it was off for maybe 10-30 minutes. at the time it went out, I had firefox, yahoo, windows media player, and photoshop running. when I restarted this morning, yahoo and firefox (the session manager is a life saver!) worked.
however, I wanted to listen to some music this afternoon (around one), but windows media wouldn't start. I restarted my computer, and tried opening it again, but it still didn't work (I tried many different ways). I thought ok, it's just windows media, it'll work again soon enough. so I went on with my day and such, went shopping, ate dinner and such. tonight, about three hours ago, I wanted to open Photoshop to work on some things for my website, and guess what? It wouldn't start.
I shut down completely and unplugged my computer for a few seconds, but when I started again nothing happened. then, I reinstalled photoshop and still nothing is happening. I've also tried many different ways of opening it.

obviously, this has something to do with the power going out, correct? should I COMPLETELY uninstall photoshop/delete all files, and install again?
I would wait until dad gets home monday to tell him about it, then I would have to wait for weeks, etc...
problem with that. I CANNOT live without my music and photoshop. :[

Sounds like it could be a hard drive problem.

ok.
after about a million tries, I finally got some sort of photoshop to work.
I deleted ALL of the photoshop files/uninstalled everything, then installed it again. still didn't work. I shut down and unplugged my computer for about an hour, and it still didn't work.
then I just gave up and downloaded a free trial of cs3 from adobe (I was using cs2). so I guess I can't complain...until the trial runs out.

but I still can't get windows media to do shit. I might have a go at deleting/reinstalling it tomorrow.

Yeah, I guess you have to if you really want to listen to your music/ watch videos that bad.
