Asymmetrical Bob, Looks hot...but on a SQUARE face shape? o_O Options

Ok, so I have a square/rectangular face shape.
And I'm tired with my chest length hair.

My current hairstyle is "super layered".

It has alot of short layers on top, it gives that "poof."

A.K.A "Asian Mullet" or "Scene Hair"

I didn't even ask for this hairstyle but my hairstylist gave it to me because it was "in."
I really don't like it, it doesn't fit my personality, seriously, I think I look like a mushroom. Well, it fits other girls more than me.

Since my friends all have chest length hair and similar style I want to do something different. I want shorter hair. They said I'll regret it.

I'm pretty scare I might turn out like a guy
Why? Because a square face shape gives a more structured face and it looks manlier, and if my haircut (short) turns out bad, I might look like a dude
Plus, my hair takes forever to grow out, so I really don't want to regret this.

So help me out. Should I just risk it and cut my hair shorter? If so, can you describe HOW I should cut it? And maybe even provide a picture? Because I've done research and I'm still confused and worried. The pictures I have are for people with oval faces or something else, but not square. I know for sure I'm sticking with side-swept bangs though.

I know that the bob can vary in the length in front and back so that's the reason I'm confused.

If you think I shouldn't, state why.

Ooh, what you guys should also know is that I have fine (thin) hair, that has NO volume. So when I try to style my hair it falls flat even with hairspray. And the density is medium. Hair is "relaxed" so it's not straight, or curly, or wavy just "relaxed."

Apparently, this is going to be a big change with my appearance so I really don't want to mess up. 9/10 of the times I get my haircut it always turns out some other way, which I don't like. I'll get a better hairstylist.
