This is my first time ever making something like this, and I'd appreciate some feedback. I feel as if something is missing or off, but I'm not sure what it is. The only part that I'm completely satisfied with is the bird. I've only ever vectored little cartoons - never something that's supposed to look semi-realistic. If I'm not told that it's absolutely atrocious, I might make it into a layout.

Edit:

I took some of your suggestions and changed it up a bit. All I really did was take away the ribbon and add some details to the branches. I'm not that fond of the flowers, but I think if I just work on them a bit, they'll look nice. Which do you like better?

I like everything except the purple and blue fade areas.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about those. I just wanted to add some color, and that was all I could think of. D:

I like it. To be honest, I really like the colored faded blob areas. I think it's a nice touch to it.

Great job, as always.

^I agree. The thing that really sticks out to me (that I don't like) is the redish part of the branch. It seems a bit too ...painted? (if that's the word.) Idk. The bird is pretty damn flawless, though. flowers.gif

^ I agree with it looking 'painted'. But is it supposed to be a snake's tongue?

^ It's supposed to be a ribbon, actually. That would be a seriously long snake's tongue. blink.gif I may add more detail to that part. I just put it there to cover the branch since it looked too plain.

Thank you, everyone. biggrin.gif

Well, now that I'm thinking about it, I actually like that concept. I was inspired to make the bird by a song in Sweeney Todd, so a more violent theme might be fitting. I'd have to tweak a few things, but I might go with that now. Thanks? Haha.

^ Sweeney Todd was the worst movie i've ever seen in my entire life.

I saw it the other day and was horrified by how atrocious it was. (not that it was scary, but the singing was unbearable, and they sung almost the entire movie) >.<

I thought Sweeney Todd was a great movie. Not Johnny Depp or Tim Burton's best work, but it was great nonetheless. And I thought the singing was fine - I don't get why people didn't like Helena Boham Carter's voice, because I think it fits her character perfectly.

Anyways, Gabi, how were you inspired by the movie?

I thought the movie was fantastic, too. It's a musical, so of course there is singing throughout the whole thing.

There's that one song called "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" that Johanna sings. I wanted to make something having to do with the movie, but I'm not good with dark things, so that song was perfect. I had lyrics in my graphic and everything, but they looked out of place so I took them out.

haha when I saw the title of this topic I started singing that song in a head.

Green finch and linnet bird
Nightingale, Black bird
How is it you sing?

lol

I really like this. It looks great. The only part I am not so fond of is the branch.

Listen to Angela Lansbury or Patti LuPone sing the part. She is much better. Carter just sounds boring compared to the other people who have played the part.

^ Well, considering how she's not a professional Broadway singer, I think she did a fantastic job.

Thanks guys. I'll probably stick with the second version. I might work with the flowers a little more (something about them bugs me), but that's about it.

The only problem I have with the flowers is that they're all exactly the same. Other than that, I think the flowers are fine. =]

The edited version is better than the first. The ribbon in the first one is kind of distracting, so it's good that you took it away. For the flowers, they don't look as realistic as they could; maybe change one of their shadows a bit more so they each look more unique.

I look forward to seeing this used in a layout. :)
