my friend is getting knee surgery on thursday, and i want to show her i care and hope she gets well soon, but i don't know how to approach it or word it? opinions?

Call her up after the surgery to ask how it went.
You could send her a get well card and some balloons or something like that. :)

Buying her something that she likes (such as her favorite food or a book she's been wanting) is also a nice gesture. Even just dropping by her hospital room (if she wants visitors) is a great way to show you care. _smile.gif

that's exactly what i would do.
i had knee surgery about a year ago, and my best friend came and vistited me, and broght me balloons and my favorite candy.
it was really sweet.
