it depends on what u want the background to look like, and what resolution you're working in.... i think that the backgrounds are seamless, so they can be used in any size, and can be repeated infinately

well if you think about it.. your ENTIRE SCREEN would be 800x600.. so if you want the bg to be exactly fit to your background INSIDE THE WINDOW, you'll have to basically subtract the space that the browser window takes up, right?

so based on that pic, you just want your bg to be the size of the blue area, right?

edit: yah, you got it ;X

seriously, stop double posting! just edit your last post

anyways, most people are using 1024x768 resolution and the base number of people on 800x600 is pretty low. unless youre designing for wireless access (pdas and such), which is extremely unlikely, work towards supporting 1024x768.

if youre using a non-seamless image, try to fit everything into 1000x600 space. this should work fine for most browsers on 1024x768 and higher res users just see smaller images. also, i highly suggest you position it as a div layer rather than a background image so that higher res users wont see an out of place blog area.

if you are using a seamless background, just set it as a background image with repeat and youre set for all resolutions.
