I was lucky enough to get seats to see the Iron Man premeire in my hometown. The movie not only featured some of the best special effects I've seen in a superhero movie, it also spotlighted some amazing performances, while not completely excellent were extremely realistic and respectful to the comic books.
![]() First Off: One of the most exciting parts of the night was getting to see the NON bootleg version of the new Dark Knight trailer, AND a never before seen Indiana Jones 4 trailer which was absolutely amazing. The movie starts off just as fast paced as I was expecting it to, and continued to keep that pace throughout the movie. The characters were not over-acted and each one plays an important role in the story. Faverau knew exactly what he was doing, he wasn't redefining the way we think of Superheroes, he was creating a franchise and he suceeded. Without spoiling to much the movies leaves you completely wanting more AND BE SURE TO STAY AFTER THE CREDITS, its seriously the biggest bonus in Comic Book history since Spider Man was making its debut to the big screen. If your a fan of Comics then MAKE SURE YOU STAY. Downey's performance was amazing, I compare it to his performance in a Guide to Recognizing your Saints, which was equally amazing. Something about his characters all seem to relate, they are all very hard on the outside and each try to hide the fact that they do have a heart, in Iron Man its no exception. Paltrow's performance was believable and not to over the top. She didn't play a damsel in distress, and it was refreshing to see a female lead not give into the cliche' bs that superhero movies tend to put female roles in. The dude's (aka Jeff Bridges) was surprisingly well developed, and even though he does play the villain, its difficult to hate him. Terrence Howard's role will be bigger in the Sequel, but for an introduction, the chemistry between Stark and Rhodes was great, and will be easy to accept and understand for the Sequel plot, which if some of you don't know, then I wont spoil it. The visual effects were impressive, and easy on the eyes, Favereau doesn't pull a Wachowski by any means. The sound is equally entertaining, the score of the movie was rather subtle, but also played an important part to the progression of the plot. The biggest shock was its unconventional ending, which I won't spoil, that definitely leaves fans wanting more. overall the Premiere experience was excellent and the movie is definitely a highlight of 2008's summer blockbusters. As of right now it stands at a 96% on RottenTomatoes, and continues to grow in success. -----Cheers. Matt P.S. I hope those fans of Iron Man leave your review, as I would enjoy reading it :) |
