so...because i quit my old job and i really need to get out in the world, i'm looking to get my website up and running within the week (media temple, here i come!)

now i just need a name. it can't be cheesy, it can't be frolicky. it's not going to be like all those myspace layout sites out there (at first it'll probably be similar because i need to start with advertising income). my goal is to actually build a design firm (complete with a penthouse company in NYC), so i need something catchy and attractive. "grrDesigns" won't cut it anymore.

what i've come up with so far:
fixtatik

and that's about it. :D
i like the letter "k" places where it shouldn't be (like departika.com). i also like the letter "f." and "x." but if you can come up with something interesting without using those, i'm all for it.

and ideas?

I've been trying for weeks to think of a good site name.

Mind if I steal one you don't use when some are suggested?

lol, i was actually going through this same problem a few days ago.

for myself, i wanted "vistyx" at first (vis = short for visual, and styx as in the river to cross before going to the underworld - it's supposed to represent crossing over a creative boundary, lol), but it was taken and too many results came up in a search, so then i wanted "vistyxx." Idk, I'm not a fan of double x's, so I ended up going with "exklamity.net." I don't know how I got there, but ... yeah.

I'd suggest going here: http://www.morewords.com/combo/
you can play with sounds you like, then find words that go with the sounds, etc.

^ ha, definitely, go for it. i think my problem is that i always try to do everything on the fly. i should have started freelance design years ago, but i didn't think of it (it was always, "hey i have a cooler layout than you!")...never thought i could actually market it.

and because i do everything on the fly, i'm now jobless :D

length is also a big issue, too. there are so many sites out there that are like, "too-freakin-awesome-designs-for-you.org"

no one's gonna remember that...
i think 8 letters is long enough. and easy-to-remember words

Please just don't use anything with "lyt" in it. I know, many people do and I'm truly happy for them, but it bothers me for some reason.

I found my name completely spelling a different one. I like the word "caviller" and I felt cracked one morning so I came up with "crackedcaviller." Unfortunately, I was also very tired so I kept typing "crackedcalliver" and that ended up being the name I went with (it's also my aim, my LJ, etc).

never in my life would i use something with "lyt"...that's just horrible. i think it's the whole internet stupidity and so many people ignoring vowels these days that bugs the hell out of me.

i think i like new words formed from double words than i do straight up double words.

haha, i've been trying that for a few days. all the words i translated (i was doing japanese, german, polish (hooray for the letter k!), french, spanish, russian...). all the foreign words were boring.

i think i'll have to look into it some more, though.

lol, i like putting words together and making new words. that's pretty much how i got all of my old usernames.

expoised = expose + poised
effection = affection + effect ... idk why.
heartquasm = heart-attack + spasm
vistyx = visual + the River Styx
exklamity = i don't remember the two words, but it had something to do with going against something else in a bold way.
