I'm switching over from Surpass to Dreamhost in about a month - is everything on my ftp going to be erased when I do that? I guess I'll back everything up anyway, but I'm just wondering what the switch process is going to be like. I want to launch my site soon, but not if changing servers is going to effect things that much.

download and backup the files onto you computer then reupload them to dreamhost:]

changing hosts is just redirecting the domain name. your files will still be on surpass's server, so definitely back them up before the move.
