Have you ever eaten something before, and then you either experience something (i.e. your senses) that makes you disgusted by that particular food and you vow never to eat it again? Your mind is constantly reminded of that experience when you see or think about the food, so you grow to dislike it. Same could go for eating something so much and then one day you mind makes you feel sick of eating it and now you feel nauseous or feel a dislike for that particular item.
For example, when I was younger, my mother would always make and pack for me these Jelly/Jam sandwiches for my school lunch. Of course this was back in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. Anyway, one time during first grade I visited my half-sister's boyfriend's house and they were watching some gory horror movie on television (which I can't even remember what it was) and I guess the mass amount of blood traumatized me. I just couldn't eat those jelly sandwiches and think that they were good. I felt like I was eating bloody chunks of people or something. This went on for a couple years, and I would feel squeamish every time I went on a school field trip and had to eat those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or I just wouldn't eat anything at all. I think I eventually got over it by the time I entered middle school though. I started watching more horror movies and I realized that those sandwiches were just made of plain old jam. Ahah :P Silly me! I'll post my phobia for Vietnamese pho later ;x Anyone else have any food phobias, past or present? |
