So when it comes to classes do you have any teacher preferences? (I guess this is more towards college students seeing as how in high schools you aren't allowed (or I wasn't at least) to choose your teachers).
I was sitting in my English class earlier tonight trying to decide whether I like having a male or female teacher. I prefer my teachers to be older for some reason, too. I'm not sure why. But the male/female teacher I'm still not sure on. You? |

It really depends. Right now, I'm leaning towards male teachers, since in the two classes where the teacher switched some time during the year, I've always liked the male one better.

^ But then they'd be way less experienced... they'd just be like fully-paid TA's.

I never really had a preference in high school. I think the biggest thing is for the teacher to have a sense of humour, and to genuinely care about their students and their job. I guess younger teachers tend to exhibit these characteristics more, but I've also had older teachers that are like that too.
I remember as a kid though, that I preferred female teachers. If I had to choose now, I think I'd say male teachers. Overall they're just easier to manipulate, LOL. It's like...a subliminal sexual thing. You don't even think about it, but I think it'd be easier to manipulate them. Am I a bad person? |

I think I prefer teachers who have been around for a while and know what they're talking about - and actually show an interest in the subject. Plus I've noticed that some new teachers blab on too long about irrelevant things because they don't have a sense of how long the classes are just yet.
I don't have much of a gender preference, though. |

I don't like being in the "guinea pig" class for a teacher. But i've found it better when they're kind of younger because some of the really older ones get all cranky. For some reason I prefer the male teachers, don't know why. They just seem a little more laid back. I think it's cool too when teachers have a sense of humor. |

I don't really know, to be honest... Out of the teachers who I liked best during high school, I would have to say generally older but not ancient... Kind of indifferent to gender, though. My top two were actually a married couple of similar age, as it happens.

I don't have any preferences. That's what ratemyprofessors.com is for. They help decide for me.

Baha, yeah. I don't have an set preferences, it just depends from prof. to prof. But I do kind of agree with what Gigi said about male teachers. |

The college professors I preferred were of the laid back variety. Someone without an air of intellectual elitism to them.

For some classes, I like having younger teachers. They tend to be more laid back and since they're just starting out they aren't as structure as other teachers. If it's something that I'm serious about learning and doing well at, then I like someone who knows their stuff.

I like younger teachers, but there have been some exceptions (such as my really cool English teacher [male] who was pretty old and is retiring). I had a young female teacher for geography and she was amazing (she let us eat and listen to our mp3 players in class! haha).
