I've been homeschooled for the last 3 years. I'm getting to that age where i want to be out meeting new people and hanging with friends, but my parents have gotton so used to controlling everything i do that i can't. For a while they began to give me that little bit of freedom to go out with my friends after church, but they went away for a month. They got back today, and you would think they would've forgotten all the bad stuff i'd done before they left, but they havn't. I told them i'd gotton some driving lessons, and i'd driven in the rain at night (which my mum would never let me do) and then asked if that meant they would take me out in the rain, and my mum brought up a lil miscommunication we had while i was driving. And now i find out that she won't be giving me anymore lessons because of that.
My step dad however said he'd love to give me manual lessons when they got back from there lil holiday(i havn't done manual before) . He also said we'd go out and look for a cheap, old manual car that i can learn in. While they were away they bought to brand new laptops, sending them broke. Now we can't afford the car and they have 2 laptops each all with Windows Vista, and im stuck with a crappy old thing that freezes every 1/2 hour and is only a Windows Me. Im not allowed to use any of there laptops, and the extra computer that they had between them got given to my lil brother who uses it to watch "Naruto" episodes on youtube and play Solitair. My computer runs like a turtle with no legs, taking forever to go nowhere. I want to do some more graphic designing but everytime i start up Gimpshop (which is the only thing that will work) it freezes. and when i asked if we would be going to church tomorow, they said yes. then when i mentioned my mates were going to someones house for a BBQ they said "just coz there doing that doesn't mean you will" IM SO BLOODY FRUSTRATED!!!!!!! everytime i hear there voice i get the chills im this close to blowing up in their face and i dunno what to do am i going crazy or is my whole family against me?? Any advice or suggestions as to what i should do would be greatly appreciately JCLore |

wow your parents are so protective of you. how old are you? you should have a talk with them, ask them why they're not letting you do certain things. meet their expectations. if they seem unreasonable, have an argument. but dont blow up in their faces.

^I'm 16 going on 17. and my parents aren't people to be reckoned with.
if i asked to go out and their answer was no, and then i asked "Why?" then they'd be like "Excuse Me!?, Don't you dare argue with me!" in fact im pretty sure if i did go further with that arguement then they'd most likely bring out the wooden spoon. But i keep biting my tongue before i get to ask why. i've bitten my tongue once so hard that it bled. |

well, i think you're at an age where you can stick up for yourself but do it in a calm but assertive way. it's time to sit them down, force them to listen to you WITHOUT interrupting you and come up with a compromise. if you come at them with a course of action, they may be able to reconsider their ways of doing things.

Tung, that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Stop the spam.
I'm thinking you should take Melie's suggestion. Even if your parents are unreasonable (and I have friends with very strict parents, so I know you're not exaggerating), if you try your best to make them have one rational conversation with you, things might get better. Think through everything you want to say, including how you'll ask them to have this conversation (politely, and when they're in a relatively good mood). It's better than blowing up and ruining your chances at them relaxing their control over you. |

OMG. I am really sorry for you. It's a difficult situation you're in. Like someone mentioned, how about a job?

Are you the first born child? Or do you have an older sibling? I am the first born with my mother, but my step dad has four kids of his own, all of them are married now. The thing is, i believe he thinks he made a couple of mistakes with them, and im his second chance. Would they let you get a job if you wanted to get one, or do they let you participate in any outside activities like sports, or clubs? i have a job, although its been a while since i've had a shift. they alos let me get my Lerners permit, so eventually i'll be out driving on my own. they don't seem to mind that, but i don't think that its occured to them that i'll be driving on my own at the end of the year. |
