Wow, this is pretty interesting.

I can't believe that principal (?) deducted that Asian kids are smarter just because of the change in demographics and exam results over the years... maybe the higher marks are really because of the improvement of technology and educators, or because the standards are set lower.

I do totally agree with the whole expectations and cultural differences thing though. And I really agree with that Hazel Markus too... I do feel pressure at times (I think most students do), but not to an extent that I fear my parents.

And I think it's just a crazy cycle. The stereotype of Asians being so good at math, or math-related subjects, is kind of a fuel for these kids to do better.

Or, you know... at least that's my take on this.

No, just one teacher, hes staff too though.
But he got mad because we were a slower math class [i suck at math] and only like 5 of us passed a test so he got mad and said that

Well, I guess stereotypes are based on truth.

Did that one white lady try encouraging meditation to help people learn?

No, I think you misunderstood. What's happening is that because there are more Asians (demographic change), there is a higher amount of Asians in general in that high school that perform better.

20% White, 75% Asian, 5% other. Hypotheticall speaking, if you had 300 seniors, then let's say that 10% of each group (white, asian, other) perform exemplary. That means that out of the 60 whites, only 6 of them are exemplary. On the contrary, out of 225 Asians, you'd have 23 (well, 22.5 to be exact) who perform exemplary. The other would not matter as you'd have 2 (1.5 to be exact) "others" who perform well. So if you put all those smarties in an homors class, you have 23 Asians, 6 whites, and 2 others. You're going to see a greater performance in testing from Asians.

So if you have more Asians taking AP classes and a higher rate of Asians passing them (because there are more Asians than whites), of course they're going to say that Asians do better.

Also, if there are more Asians in an honors class and they start to do better, then over time they're start to perform better. Although it is true that the pressure that Asians have on them is also important. Consider how many Asians there are in the school. Each one wants to outdo the other, because there are so many of them. And if all of them are performing really well, there's pressure to be the "smarter" Asian out of the bunch.
