Personally I say yes. In my state cats are allowed in most apartments, and they are clean. What do you think.

Um, in some they are allowed. In some they are not. There's no need for them to be universally allowed.

Agreed here in florida its a big deal some places and in others its just not. Depends where you want to move. blink.gif I dont think its really a big deal whether they are or they arent, if theyre not allowed then move somewhere else shrug.gif. I know i wouldnt abandon my babie just because he wasnt allowed to live somewhere.

Actually, im a rule breaker so id probably move in with him anyways. tongue.gif

well i have a story...my friend that used to live here in a 1 bedroom apt and bought a female american bulldog. it was all gravy until she got HUGE. imagine a puppy that stands 3 feet off the ground that things its a little lap dog. it basically destoryed everything and everyone that came into the apt and ended up being severely misstreated and locked in a cage all day:\ but this is why most apartments have a size limit for what kind of dog you can bring in they just didnt tell the complex about lulu(the dog). :[ it was so sad but she finally has a good home with other people out in the country so she has room to move.

but i believe dogs need a yard. i brought my dog to live with me in an apt once and she became so depressed :\

small or not, if you're renting, you don't own anything, therefore it should be the landlord's decision.

i personally don't mind pets --big, small, loud, furry, feathery, smelly. my neighbor's problems are not my business. as for the noise problem, it's not as bad as having your neighbor blast on their stereo system. i'm pretty sure people can deal with it.

That's why when you rent/lease they ask for a security deposit as well as a fee for every animal, type of animal, and weight of animal.

It should be the responsibility of the renter/owner to choose a place to live where best fits their type of living environment.

I think its fine the way it is. If a person feels the need to have a cat in their apartment, they should just find an apartment complex that allows them.

There are people that DO have allergic reactions to animals (ie. cat hair, saliva, etc) those that have a deathly fear of them, and people with little children (as friendly as Rex the bulldog is, I just don't want toddlers around him). With that in mind, it makes sense for some complexes to restrict animals to cater to that section of the population.

Then there's the fact that as loving, cute, and playful as animals are, they're messy, and sometimes a hazard (or as I call them, a lawsuit waiting to happen). Leasing offices usually want to minimize the factors contributing to the deterioration of their apartments (even though they slap us with a huge ass bill if Fluffy does end up scratching the walls) and its best to just minimize the possible damage Fluffy can do. As loving as Fluffy might be to you, I highly doubt the leasing office will care to determine whether Fluffy's demeanor is the same towards them.

And instead of going through the pains of allowing certain types of animals, and having to explain why one is allowed over the other, its just easier to just ban them all.

I think there should be some places that do allow them and that don't. Obviously, if you're looking into renting an apartment and they allow cats and dogs you should assume that there are going to be some of those animals there and if you have an allergy (I'm allergic to cats) than move on and look a different place. It's unfair to have EVERY apartment pet free. Not to mention, unreasonable. But it's also unfair to have every place a place where there's animals. A lot of people want to live where it's generally peaceful and some people might get sick.

As far as fish are concerned, they really shouldn't be considered a pet, lol, they don't make noise and it's pretty hard to be allergic to them...

sad.gif I have a loud and obnoxious dog, but even when he was a small puppy the Super was trying to get rid of him. We told him that he allowed all these others dogs, why not ours? We were allowed to keep him after some convincing. I mean, I'm not saying they should allow them everywhere, but it should be balanced.

There's one main reason why pets usually are prohibited in apartments and that's noise. People don't like noise, especially when they're at home. That's why most apartments only allow cats and aquariums, the loud animals aren't welcome. But I think a person should be able to have any kind of pet in their apartments after passing an evaluation by a vet that the animal can stay quiet (ie. A dog trained to not bark?).

Depending on the complex, it would be nice to have a seperate floor/area/building for pet owners. I know how much of a hassle it is to find a apartment with price and location alone, not to mention accomodating a pet and/or other special needs. Should it be a right to have pets in an apartment? No.

yea small small pets. i think should be allowed. i have a shih tzu and i lived in an apartment, the landlords switched so many times that it was okay for me to have a pet. but if there was any big dogs and they barked, then you probably would of heard it down the hall.

but i agree with cats and small dogs. but anything else that stinks or is hard to take care of shouldnt be allowed.

where i'm located, ks, it's pretty hard to find apartment complexes that allow dogs and if they do, there is a weight limit. all of the ones i've found were no more than 25lbs. and the apartment complex i live in now had a rule in the beginning that the pet had to be over a year. these kinds of rules are really good but if we had a big dog i would not want to give him away just because of what kind of dog he is.

hmm...sounds like animal discrimination. hammer.gif
