How does birth control make you gain weight?
And how much do you gain?

lol... you do realize what birth control does right? It basically tricks your brain into believing you're an old woman, kills off your hormones. So your motabolism changes of course.

Oh and supposedly there's a study right now where birth control over time sterilizes women.

* Metabolism.

Well even if it sterilizes me, that's kind of cool --- I don't want children anyway. whistling.gif

The ring made me gain 5 lbs. Yes the doctor told me that it makes your hormones change, but different people have different side effects. You don't constantly gain weight though... If you do, it's kind of your own fault. sweating.gif Plus the side effects ease with time, but it depends on how your body works, really. The side effects of the ring aren't so bad though.

And I didn't really change my diet anyways, so it's not like I ate more. I usually eat the same stuff and whatnot even when I was not on BC.

Well, since it messes with your hormones it can mess with your weight, but usually as your body adjusts to it you'll get back to normal. For the most part, women gain weight because one of the side effects is having an upset stomach. So snacking usually helps ease those types of side effects. Different people react differently. If you're worried that you'll gain weight, let your doctor know. They'll talk to you about different pill options.

Sometimes it can make you gain weight. It really depends on the person. Anywhere from 2 to 50 pounds is likely for you to gain.

If you used a condom and was on birth control, would there be any chance of you getting pregnant?

^ There could be a slight chance of getting preggers. Not completely sure, but I saw a Roseanne episode where becky goes on the pill and there was something said about having to wait a month before not using a condom for the pill to go completely into effect. shrug.gif

^^ I've never heard of someone gaining 50 lbs. from birth control.

And yes, there is a possibility that you gain weight. Its just part taking the birth control. And the amount you gain really varies from person to person.

there's ALWAYS going to be a chance of pregnancy no matter what kind of protection you use. But if the guy used a condom, and the girl was on BC, it would reduce the risk of pregnancy a lot. Only way of not getting pregnant is abstinence.
