I want to use my website as a design firm for aspiring designers, and hosting. I have never hosted anyone before, and I would like to know the basic things:

QUOTE
How many MB should I give?
What does it take to be a good host?

Any other information would be great.

Good hosts should help out their hosts (obviously) and that's pretty much it for me. It really depends on how much MB you have overall. If you have around 250+, you should give around 25-30 MB and a shared bandwidth with yourself and all the other hostees. :). If you have more than 500+, give around 50MB. All you have to do to be a good host is just try to be friendly and nice to all your hostees and help them out when they're needed.

Thanks for the advice.

I have 200GB of Disk Space, and 2000GB of Bandwidth. I will be hosting around 5 plus people, so do you think 100+ MB or more will be enough?

Damn 200gb?! You're crazy haha, I think that 100mb for each person is okay, and you can even throw in 150mb if you think that. You should just ask them why type of website they want and if it's a graphics/etc you should give them around 100mb and if it's just a personal blog, then just give them 50mb. If it's a personal blog with graphics and etc, you should give them 150mb. :D. I think it's great that you're hosting as well. :). I'm sure there are people on cB who would love to be hosted xD.

I think 100-150 MB is a good start as well, thanks for your help.

If I were a hostee, I would probably need 5 GB bandwidth at minimum, though that's for a moderately-busy website. I think 1-3 GB bandwidth is the least you should give to your hosts.

Forgive me if I miscalculated anything. oro.gif I haven't managed a website in a longass time ..

I think you should just give them 100-150mb when they first get hosted, and then as they become a bigger and bigger website, just tell them to ask you if they need anymore space or bandwidth and you can just give it to them instead of just giving them like 1gb when they don't even need much of it when they first begin.

Well, cause like, you did say you have 2000 GB monthly transfer. How much bandwidth do you use each month for your own site?

The most I think I ever used was between 80-200 MB of bandwidth.

Then that's a lot of extra bandwidth for you to use for your hostees. _smile.gif
