imma f*ck anybody who posts mac hate. i did not post this thread to get that kinda of response.

so yea i just got my mac in january and i have experienced three random shut downs since then. i dunno what to do at the moment. so far i am looking up what other people are saying but so far they are just saying adjust the fan speed.

it usually shuts down when i am working in photoshop or illustrator for a while, probably around an hour. but when i am surfing the internet it is fine.

anybody recommend anything. i just want to fix the problem before calling the apple store.

programs like photoshop or illustrator are constantly stressing your graphics card, which leads to higher fan speeds. even at higher fan speeds, the laptop overheats, and will shut down.
surfing the web doesn't stress anything at all, since playing video or pictures don't use up that much of system resources, unless you're viewing it under mkv, ogm, or blue-ray rips.

buy a laptop cooler and see if that eliminates the problem.

also, it could be an issue with ram. defective ram on pcs causes the BSOD (blue screen of death), or random shut downs as well. i would download a program and see how fast your fans are running, and how hot your laptop is getting. run it in the background, then run a few programs, and observe the changes from there.

most people i know replaced the ram in macs with aftermarket ram, and they claimed that it boots faster and runs smoother.

if your mac is still under warranty, i suggest you get it checked out since it's free anyway

thanks a lot.

i called apple and they told me to reset the ram. by pressing option+command+p+r.

she then told me to use illustrator for an hour. so far my computer is not that hot.

i think it is the heat though..

thanks for the great answer, i understand you completely. i will update to see what happens in the next hour.

ohh and for both of you i have a imac not a laptop.
