To this day, I don't understand what it fcking means to be flattered. Is it good to say, "wow, I'm flattered"?

My life won't ever be complete until I get this. hammer.gif

The dictionary I have says it's being in a "positive mood because of a comment or action which causes one to feel proud of oneself. "

So I guess it's kind of like basking in the glow of a compliment lol

edit: ok if they're being sarcastic it usually means "If you were trying to pay me a compliment you completely screwed up."

Unless they're being sarcastic.

It's kinda like "not bad meaning bad but bad meaning g-g-g-good."

I don't think it makes you look conceited. It just makes me feel happy when I get a complement, haha.

laugh.gif @ agiri

um... to be honest I dont hear many people say it unless they mean it sarcastically. I reckon it depends on their tone.

(I mean dont most people just say 'thanks' when they get a complement?)

Yeah, that's what I always do. I was just trying to think of other ways to kindly acknowledge a compliment, cause I get tired of saying "thanks" to them.

I hate thinking of ways to acknowledge compliments. I hate how our so called educators enjoy teaching us the morals of complimenting others every day in order to feel better about ourselves and boost self esteem. Honestly, how the hell is that gonna help?

So I rather just not be complimented. People telling me they love me is fine enough.

But to answer your question, my definition of 'flattered' would be an uncontrollable absorption of something directed toward yourself. Like when people say "Omg, I'm flattered!" I'm guessing that they can hardly absorb the shower of compliments. Idk, just taking a stab. mellow.gif

Pretty much what most people said. Its a reaction to a compliment received...I've said it before, haha but not often. But yeh, like someone said its a lot more common in the sarcastic way.

I never say that I'm flattered by something unless someone says something about me that has me completely floored. So when I say it, it means that someone has given me a compliment that caught me off guard, made me feel great, and genuinely gave me the impression that the person meant it, even if they didn't.

The act of flattery is a deliberate attempt to make someone look good, whether it's true about them or not, and when someone says they're flattered, they're essentially saying, "That doesn't adequately portray me at all (i.e., I don't deserve that!), but I greatly appreciate it!"

If an article of clothing is flattering to you, that means it does something for your body shape that makes it look good when it wouldn't normally look as good. Same goes for a hairstyle - people often cut their hair in a certain way to hide "flaws" created by their facial structure, and if it's done in a way that effectively hides these flaws, it's considered to be "flattering".

I'm overdoing this, but perhaps you understand the meaning of the word. xD

Ooh, I see. Very helpful. Thanks guys.

Feel free to post some more, though, if you have an opinion on this.
