div layout works in Safari(on Mac) and Firefox(on PC) but not IE 6(on PC) or IE 7 (on Mac) Options

I have had a terrible time getting my divs to layer correctly. If I code it to layer correctly in IE, it's wrong in Safari and Firefox and vice versa. Could someone look at my code and tell me if it is missing something or has an error that would correct the issue.

Also, my flash player is audible but not visible when I am logged into Myspace - audible and visible when not logged in or from someone else's logged in profile. I have not been able to figure out why it is doing this; I had not changed my code in some time when I first noticed the problem.

Yeowch, the code you've given looks very messed up on my test page compared to your own profile. I can only assume you haven't copied it accross correctly?

The best advice I can give to you right now without being able to work with a working code is to absolutely position your main image and relative position everything else. Use the left and right properties as you have done but make it similar to this:

left:50%;
margin-left:-345px;

Where the "-345px" is exactly half the width of your main banner image. This should center align your DIV in all browsers, at all resolutions.

Your flash player is visible to me - but try setting it in a DIV layer with a high Z-index number.

Thank you. I did notice that the code I pasted above scrolled off to the right but it looked like it was all there. I will try your suggestions and comment back with results. I am in the Vista/IE 7 partition of my Mac at the moment trying to get things to work. I still have different visuals of the layout in IE than Safari/Firefox. So frustrating!!

Hello again,

I did position absolutely according to your remarks the main pic (the one of me) with the other divs positioned relatively. While my layouts are all basically contained in near perfect position from browser to browser (Mac:IE7/Safari-PCIE6/Firefox) there are still slight differences (incredibly noticeable to me). I really would love to truncate the area of dead space beneath the images, too. Do you know how to do this? Lastly, if I put unlinked text on my page it is not visible. I had the same problem with the top 13 link nav bar but figured out how to fix that. I have not been able to resolve the hidden text issue. My player still does not play when I am signed into Myspace - works in every other scenario. I am now wondering if it is a MySpace error.

Yes, that is how I would like it to look; I coded it to be as such in IE since that is the predominant browser in use. I just switched to my Leopard/Safari partition. It looks this way in my IE6/XP and IE7/Vista and Safari/Leopard but not in my Firefox v.2.0.0.11/XP. The main image (of me) is down about 50-75px.

I added two div layers to my layout while in IE and the Safari and Firefox views are off again!! I am thoroughly frustrated with these problems. Not to be redundant, but if someone knows how to truncate the dead space at the bottom of my layout or how to make the unlinked text visible, I would be most grateful for the help.

I figured out why my layers were not rendering similarly in the various browsers. My other questions were not answered, have been here daily checking for posts, have had none, so you can close this topic thread since the other questions are not relevant to the thread title.

Could you first reiterate what further problems you need solving and let us know what you did to fix your alignment problem. It helps with referencing similar posts in the future.

As far as my other questions:

I was just about to address the issue regarding dead space at the bottom, but you seem to have resolved that..

As for the invisible text, it seems to be a possible problem with the "HIDE STUFF" section. Since you used visibility: hidden; you can override that for each individual section, something like this:

I got a little fed up with the rendering issues. I Photoshoped most of the images into one main image. The dead space went away when I changed to the new layout with less divs. I have designed a page for someone else since and it does not have dead space either so, who knows what was up with my original code.

I found a page on the web that lists which of the .xxxxtextxx codes are which so I should be able to figure out which one needs to be visible for my main body text to appear. Thanks so much for the reply.
