Making textures?

I hope this is the right place to post this --
I would love to know how to make my own textures, similar to these:

two
both by ~lovelamp on deviantart.com

I use Photoshop - Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated!

There are several thousands of tutorials online about making textures. It's pretty much all the same process; you just need to find the right material.

I've tried searching online, but with no luck -
are there specific things I should be searching for?

Textures is just finding the right images, manipulating them, and then setting it as a pattern. What you have posted are grunge textures. Something like this: http://www.websitetemplatedesign.com/oscom...orial_312.shtml
