Hm.. found this quote online.. see what you all think:
QUOTE
The love of religion is the root of all evil. Try to imagine a world without religion. Who in this world would point out the existence of evil? They'd call it a mistake, undesirable, unworkable, they'd seek to find better alternatives, but without a religion they could not call it evil and condemn it for eternity

everybody's been pickin on Christianity..pick on Buddhism a litto! hehe..

da firs kind of Buddhism(Theravada Buddhism..i thnk dats how u spell it), taught by the Buddha teaches:

Life is a continuous cycle of suffering(translated). This suffering is caused by wanting(translated).( ie wanting of money, clothes, sex, etc.) To rid yourself of this cycle of suffering, you must completely rid yourself of all wanting..then you will reach enlightenment, become a Buddha when you die, and escape the cycle.

dats wat i knoe of da firs kind of buddhism ever taught.

the type mai parents and i follow is a different kind..iuno wat its called. but da firs kind of buddhism is pretty good eh?

Jehova Witnesses are pretty annoying. They used to knock on my door every other day because they wanted me to read pamphlets about God and Paradise.

AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

I believe that they're doing a good thing by helping some people find their beliefs.. but they should leave when the person say that they already believe in something else.

It's frickin bothersome, but I don't want to throw them out because it's discourteous, but they're even more impolite because they forces their beliefs on us.

yea, but thier annoyance scale to me is the same as telemarketers.

they are trying to sell stuff, just not for money. they're trying to 'sell' thier religion to you.

religion can be a good thing, it can help people. but it is for the most, the cause of much war and killing.

at least athiets don't advocate the killing of the infidels or crusading for athiesm. then, a few people would be dead, I.E. roy moore.

When someone tries to convert me to their faith, I usually tell them I'm Muslim and call their faith worship of the Great Satan.

I believe religion was created to serve us in 2 ways:

1) as a form of control.
2) as a place where one can seek comfort from the inability to answer life's unanswered questions.

The human mind is weak and finds solace in believing there is an omnipotent ruler that will save his children in their time of need.

Where you seek comfort? Frankly, I think that religion is just a crutch for most people. Don't like what's happening? Pray to God. Did something wrong? Pray to God, and hope to get away with your sin.

Is this what our society has become? Running away from our lives and trying to cover up whatever you did wrong just by believing in something? I'm sorry, but that sounds terribly wrong to me.

Excuse me, but if you had an actual point maybe I'd be able to understand it and maybe I could say it in a way where you would understand too. This is the DEBATE section where you need to have BACKUP and REASONING. That was just a statement. Where is your backup?

Now that is the reason I missed your point. You didn't even have one. Come back when you finish high school.

haha, you're an idiot. she makes complete sense, and you just repeated what she said. a place to seek comfort is pretty much a crutch.

She made complete sense, of course. But it doesn't mean that it's a good argument. To back up religion with something you learn from church isn't a good argument. It's like saying: "My car is good because the dealer says so." It just doesn't work very well.

Okay, okay. And the whole crutch thing is pretty much the same, it's just that I stated it in a much more negative way. Is that good enough for you?

I'm not here to create enemies. I'm here to debate. And if you want to hate me for my opinions, and to call me names, then go right ahead.

It still doesn't make you much better at debating, sadly.

Should you be talking when I'm in college and you're only 14?

Nice one.

It's amazing to me that you still don't understand even after strice said you repeated what I posted. Secondly, your claim that I learned that religion is a sham from church is just completely ridiculous, if not nonsensical. WHY WOULD THEY TEACH ME ABOUT AGNOSTICISM/ATHEISM IN CHURCH.

Your member name says it all. And your debating skills are non-existent, sadly.

about the religious art, it's common knowledge that in colonial america clergy "regarded art as an invention of the Devil".

QUOTE(the_overachiever @ Jun 29 2004, 5:08 PM)
gawsh i really need a course in apologetics... =/
so here`s the situation:

A) you believe in God. God really does exist.
- you get comfort, hope, fellowship, and joy here on earth.
- when you die, you are saved and live happily in heaven.

B) you believe in God. He does not exist.
- you get comfort, hope, fellowship, and joy here on earth.
- nothing happens when you die.

C) you don`t believe in God. He really does exist.
- you live your life as an atheist.
- when you die, you get thrown into the fiery pits of hell. (lovely)

D) you don`t believe in God. He doesn`t exist.
- you live your life as an atheist.
- nothing happens when you die.

sorry, guys. that was a really selfish explanation.
if you`re a Christian, remember that you worship God to glorify him. it`s not about your happiness or comfort. so, if you became a Christian in order to get to heaven, you did everything for the wrong reason. but most atheists don`t believe in God because they think that human logic is infallible. they don`t think it`s worth it to devote themselves to God. or maybe they`ve seen how hypocritical some Christians can be (i.e. Saved, the movie).

well, anyways, i suggest that both Christians and atheists read this book: Answers to Tough Questions Skeptics Ask About the Christian Faith by Josh McDowell, Don Stewart. it pretty much covers everything.

kay, peace kidss. <33

that you go to heaven when you die..thats an OPINION
