When you're a teenager you may think you know what you're doing, but you have no idea. If I got pregnant I'd be so screwed (no pun intended) it wouldn't be funny. When the government makes legal age limits they're doing it to attempt to protect all of the teenages that want to impress their boy/girlfriend.

It just depends on how you were brought up. If your parents taught you that's it's wrong to have it at an early age, or that you're not allowed to...you're most likely not to do it (or you might if you're the rebellious type laugh.gif). It just depends...*no comment*

it's called under-age for a reason. obviously, 5 year olds shouldn't be doing it. In my opinion, I think the time is right only after you get married.

1. You've shown that you're committed to the person you choose as a partner
2. You're about 20 or so years old, definitely more mature than a teenager
3. In case you or your partner have a baby, you'll be done with school and can get a job to support the child

very true, the problem is, alot of teenagers brainwash themselves into thinking that they ARE mature enough to handle something so serious. sex is definitely a big thing and shouldnt be taken lightly.

It's all about maturity, there are plenty of 16 year olds who are more mature than 25 year olds that i kno, and seriously, is the 18 year old 'adult' really that much more mature than the 17 year old 'minor' ? orionpax is rite, saying that a lot of teenagers brainwash themselves into thinking they ARE mature enough, but what's to say that the government knows who's mature and who isn't?

well just imagine if the governement DIDNT set the age limit.

kids who dont know better would think "hey there isnt a limit, sex should be fine," rather then going "god, this is illegal, maybe i shouldnt go thru with it,"

i'm all for the notion that governments know crap sometimes but i think that having rules like that sometimes help lessen the risk of kids who dont know better meddling in things that can bring about such severe consequences.

If you're under 18 you're underage.

Also, when you're around 18 you usually graduate High School. If you got pregnant then you'll at least have finished high school. It's really hard to finish school with a baby and a lot of people don't do it. How well are you going to be able to provide for a kid if you didn't even graduate high school?

If you're underage and you think that you're mature enough to have sex then you should be mature enough to at least wait until it's legal.

Uh, underage sex is alright so long as it's not rushed into and a condom is always used. Always. No matter what.

it depends actually as what you classify "underage". i think its wrong anytime before 16 or even older because before then you're really not in a position of state of mind to be able to choose that for yourself. also if you make that mistake to young and aren't aware of possible consequences then your screwed if you happen to be a victim of one them. i guess there's no harm in waiting but there is in rushing. so "underage sex" i guess is wrong.

As long as both parties are able to consent and do in fact consent, I see nothing wrong with it.

Well... I read on a website one time (dumb laws I think) that there once existed a law in Japan where there was no age of consent. That law no longer exists.

But anyways, underage sex has consequences, and therefore is wrong in some ways. Unless both people are willing to financially and emotionally support a child and build a family relationship, I see nothing wrong. But, how many 16 year olds are able to do that? Not very many.

Recently, we had those stupid "ready-or-not tots" (baby simulators) in health class. It's supposed to encourage abstinence. And those things are VERY annoying, if you haven't done them already. Those aren't even real babies. The thing is, why ruin your life so early if you have so much ahead of you in the future?

The government decided people get smarter at 18. I don't know where they pull these ages from.

There is no Constitutional basis for sex laws.

Those are "victimless crime laws" -- they punish things that (a) are voluntary, (b) are nonviolent, © should be legal, and (d) aren't. These laws help explain why the USA has 0.75% of its population in jail -- more than any other country in the world -- and why the United Nations kicked us off the HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE.

The fact that people are sexually mature by early teens demonstrates that biologically, teenagers are competent to make that decision.

The only valid sex laws in a civilized society ought to be directed towards pedophilia -- i.e. preying on people BEFORE PUBERTY (non-sexually mature).

I'm pretty sure 16 is the age of consent.

In Georgia, it's considered staturoty rape for someone under 17 to have sex with someone under 18

Now, pedophelia is certainly wrong, but if it's consentual, then no. Morally/socially, it's definitely not right under a certain age, but when you consider how young people used to marry and reproduce, it's not that unnatural or anything. I definitely don't think the government should be able to people for having sex underage, but I think for social reasons there should be restriction placed on who can buy condoms and such things.

no. i don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as ppl use protection and make responsible choices. naturally, most people won't, but that doesn't make "underage" sex itself wrong.
