Well my mom plans on purchasing me a laptop for college, so I don't know what kind I should get. I want a Microsoft, but I want a Macintosh but I don't know how to use them and I've never used one before. Like when I need to type a report, I wouldn't know where to find the program and I wouldn't know what program to use. I found this used iBook online, but I don't know whether the iBooks are still good or not. What do you all recommend as far as laptops?

Not that there's anything wrong with an iBook, it's just that they're out of date. You might want to try to find a used/refurbished MacBook. And Macs are fairly easy to use, IMO. You just kinda...turn it on and go, like with any computer.
PS - I love my MacBook. PPS - OH! Since you're into graphics and stuff, Macs are kind of the industry standard. PPPS - And if getting used to a Mac OS is too hard for you to handle you can get Windows installed on it. PPPPS - Macs are more virus resistant than PCs. Just saying. |

^Agreed.
On the other hand though, for the cost of Macbook/Macbook Pro you also afford to get very high end and equally capable Windows based laptop. |

They aren't the industry standard. Artsy people use them because they don't know enough about windows to operate it correctly... meaning... if you buy a MacBook you would have to be an idiot not to figure it out. These things are so user friendly is pathetic. Everything on MacBook is so self explanatory it's stupid. You can have windows installed on it, but if you can't figure out the MAC OS you should probably kill yourself because you're an idiot. The only reason you should repartition your HDD and install windows on your MacBook is to use applications that aren't available for Mac OS X. Macs are NOT more virus resistant. Computers with the Mac OS just aren't as popular as computers with Windows OS installed. Hackers want to deal DMG to the computer world. Why create a virus that would infect Macintosh computers when you can do more DMG creating a virus for Windows PC's. It would be a waste of time for hackers to beat down on MACs because PCs are so much more popular. They arn't virus resistant, they're a waste of time for hackers and creators of a virus. I don't recommend against getting a MacBook, but I feel like you should know the facts. Truth is, you can do just as much and more with a Windows PC. I have a few Macs here at my company. Macs tend to have less options and break less (this is why I say they are easier to use/they are more user friendly), but PCs have more options this gives you more room to fuck up. |

Aah, so many good things about macs but do they have like a program pre-installed where you can go and like type a report? And my mom isn't willing to pay 1,000 - 2,000 dollars on a laptop, so I'm trying to find maybe a used Mac online.

You can get microsoft office for mac, and you aren't going to find a decent mac for under 1000 dollars. If you only have 1000 dollars to spend and you want to purchase a brand new machine, I would suggest pruchasing a computer with XP professional installed on it through Dells Business website. You can save money buy purchasing a laptop with XP on it because they require less system resources than a PC with Vista. The new features included with Vista are probably not going to be of much use to you, and you should probably save money by purchasing a machine with XP professional or media center installed. http://www.dell.com/content/products/categ...;l=en&s=bsd |
