And some people shouldn't act ghetto, cause they don't know what it is like to live there. I used to live in the ghetto. Oh yeah, it's uber cool to act ghetto. Act like youi have a chance of getting shot everyday when you live in a suburban neighborhood. Most people think if they can switch on BET or MTV and watch a rap artist they know ghetto.

I've been reading some posts here and for some reason people are equating ghetto=black. Being "ghetto" has to do with how you were raised and where you grew up and what you are used to. Not what race you are. Even tho some of you may not like people when they act "ghetto", sometimes it's all they know cuz that's how they grew up. And of course there are those cases where people just try to fake it.

I agree! nowadays alot of people (including me for some reason) feel that only Black people can be 'ghetto' i for one sometimes find it annoyin when others try to pretend their 'ghetto' when they're absolutely NOT..they are just show Offs

Well it relly depends on where they grew up in. I understand if they're a wannbe gangster and they just use the word to try to fit in. But if they really grew up in the "ghetto " ( and what i mean by that is they grew up with street violence, broken family, drugs, etc ) well i guess it gives them an excuse for acting the way they do. i have an itailian friend, she and her family pass the word ginzo around, but just b/c they do it...doesn't mean it would be appropriate for me to do it...i dunno...i just wouldn't feel comfortable with "if they say it...i should be allowed to say it to" i dunno...i could be wrong i don't think one person saying something bad, would enable me to say it...whatever..here i go...getting all politically correct...its just a touchy subject for me

Anyone can say what they want. However, people need to realize that what they say can be offensive, rude, or ignorant.

I try not to use the words "black" or "white" because I find them offensive. First off, NOBODY HAS f**king BLACK SKIN, AND NOBODY HAS f**king WHITE SKIN! Everybody's skin is actually a varation of some sort of brown. While some has more pink, some is tan, some is dark, some is light, it's just SKIN. People shouldn't be judged by the color of their skin, nor their ethnicity.

It's like when people shout out the whole AZN PRYDE, or whatever. Instead, you should take pride in WHO YOU ARE instead of WHAT YOUR RACE IS. Yes, your race is indeed a part of who you are, but isn't there more to a person's identity than the color of his/her skin/race?

And being "ghetto." I understand that it's a "mentality" or how people were raised, but people seem to instead flaunt it as a style. I know very intelligent people who insist on butchering the English language with "dis" and "nuttin" and "aint." Yeah, they sound pretty ignorant as would any other race, including even black folks, for using that word. It seems that people are just treating it as slang or as a "cool" word to call your friends but they obviously are not sensitive to the history and the real meaning of that word.

And I mean, wouldn't it sound or look stupid if you saw some black people talking to each other and referring to each other as "chinks" or "japs" or something. Well, thats how it looks when Asians refer to each other as "niggas" or "niccas" or "ni99as" or anything of the sort.
