I don't want to point anyone out, because well, I've done it too. BUT, do you ever find yourself laughing at those one word phrases people put on icons, banners, layouts and such? I was just looking through some icons and found myself giggling uncontrollably.
I think there's this idea that an icon isn't as good without text. I know I've fallen victim to that school of thought, hence the hideous "one words" I've put on icons before. |

Yeah, I laugh at them all the time, especially the ones on avatars/icons. Sometimes I just sit there and laugh for like five minutes because of what someone put on an avatar.

Yes I do it ocassionally, and I still think its funny. Unless you're really trying to get a message out there which is sometimes harder than you expect. But some of them are funny. PLAIN ICONS FTW! I'm about to give up on the whole text thing.

Yeah, I do phrases and such at times. (x I've seen a couple funny ones, but some icons look good with text (well 1 word that is).

The only exception is if I put someone's name (particularly if it's a character name). Even then though, I'd rather have no text than to have super tiny text. It's just not worth it. Yeahh, most of the time I see people put text that don't really relate to the image in the icon at all! It's like huh? I mean I would prefer icons without text to avoid confusion.

LOL I'm definitely guilty, which is why I've been making more and more textless icons. Though when it comes to graphics, I sometimes still do it. :x

It's the same with layouts. Sometimes people will think up the most ill-fitting titles or phrases and stick it on a banner image.
I always like to go on a thesaurus,think of what the image means or is likely to mean and go through some word variations. But yeah, I've seen some icon-beauties.

lol, my icons as of late has been lacking text outside of my BHS but i have a few banners with the one word title, sometimes it works out but majority of the time its just cheesy

Yes, I especially love reading layouts, cause most of the time they have more than one silly thing on it. It makes my day, really. Some avatars/banners are just like WTF? though. But usually I find entertainment in it. |

Yeah, I don't like it when people do that. I don't make graphics often, but the ones that I have, I haven't put random one-word phrases on them. There's just no point.
