its good to contribute, have feeling have sympathies for the poor they dont deserve these lives so if u like pass a mexican playing a guitar or some african playin fake drums in the streets on a bucket drop like 10 bux in the jar thats what i do, im sure god would credit u so much for that!!!!!

You know, any time I see someone asking for money, I pretend to ignore them. It may sound horrible, but I'm a small girl by myself. Whether I'm on a busy street or not, I don't like opening my car window for anyone, even if I do feel a little bit sorry for them. Fear still overcomes sympathy. >.>

I would donate, but where I live, there are never any people that need help. But, I guess, I would be freaked out if I saw a homeless person coming up to me. I'd start running.

I do get that feeling of pity when i see this happening, but it always makes me think twice. I'm not sure who they are, or what they're going to do with money if I give it to them. I just donate to reputable charities where I know at least some of the money will really go to that cause.

Most of the people that beg for money around here only want it so they can buy cigarettes. You see them sitting there, begging for money, while puffing on a cigarette. Now, if it were me, I wouldn't just hand them money. I do on occasion, but only if I'm walking by on the streets; nothing involving rolling down my window. The only problem I see with it, though, is a lot of places can provide you with a decent job if you just take the time to actually apply. Think of the job oppurtunities someone could obtain while standing, begging for change for 4 hours. As long as you're halfway decent, you're bound to get some type of job.

A lot of the beggars where I live are actually undercover cops. They ask for drugs.

So yeah, think twice before handing over drugs to a stranger. It might be a cop.

I use to always give change to the homeless but now, I'm a lot more cynical.

I was walking to the train station at like 6 in the morning when this woman comes up to me. She spots me and goes, "Do you know what ACS is?" She explains it's like child services and that they are coming to inspect the apartment but since she has no food, they are going to take her two kids away and she's was pregnant too. She then asked for some money for groceries. I felt bad since I was going to go shop on Black Friday. I asked her in 5 bucks with enough. She then asked for six. After I gave it to her, I realized I should have taken her to the supermarket which was half a block away. My father told me later that a woman matching her description was going around the neighborhood for years trying to con money.

I feel so bad whenever I see the homeless on the streets, but for one I never carry cash and to be honest, I don't trust them. They could use the money for drugs or something...I donate to charities but not right to the people on the streets.

I went to TJ one night, and these kids were juggling some balls, so I gave one of them a couple of bucks. Next thing you know all these other kids come up to me asking me for money! I was like god damn, I gave them the rest of my cash and ran off.

I do contribute when I get the chance as much as a goodie two shoes I sound like. Recently donated my hair and gave money to some homeless people. It really does make you feel good.

I don't contribute to people on the streets, but I DO contribute to the orginizations that help get the people off the streets and into a better life.

I usually contribute to charities and not directly to the people. Most of the homeless around here panhandle money to buy alcohol and cigarettes... That's not something that I want my money going to.

Better to get involved with local and national politics. Lobby your Congressperson to adopt a positive position on Social Policy, find out what bigger organizations there are in your area, and join up with them. Together, you can change their lives, not just their days.

He's probably just going to buy drugs or alcohol with that money. Why do you think he's like that in the first place. Just let him die. God helps those who help themselves. You have to f**k up so bad to end up like that that it's just plain pathetic.

For once I'm going to agree with James. You're better off getting involved in politics or contributing in some way (time/money) to the gov't programs that help the poor. Even then you you don't know if you're helping. You could be feeding some lazy mother with seven kids who only has that many to collect more unemployment.

It's a real hit or miss... in the end you're better off giving to an organization that you trust. Personally, I give to my church. It's called a tithe. I trust the people in my church are going to do the right thing with that money. I'm only telling you this because I assume you believe in God.

The only times I give money away randomly is when the person is actually doing something for the money or if they have a kid. I have to work for my money and so do they. If they can't get an actual job (or think they can't), they can perform or something. I almost always give money to the people performing on the street when they're good, even if they're not even homeless. They're taking action.

Yeah, thats the same here. I ususally just donate to like those santa people close to christmas who hang out by the mall or target.

I like giving money to street performers. When I was in Hollywood and Las Vegas, there were some really good ones.

And I agree, at least they're doing something other than begging.
