So this topic is for all the staff applicants who did not make it. PM an admin or headstaff asking why you were not hired. If you would like to make it public, just post it in here so we can discuss it.

So, we're supposed to PM someone to tell us why we weren't hired. I'd like to know please and if you could also go ahead and make it public, that'd be nice.

Wow. What's all that about? I was actually considering Elba as one of the choices, but nevermind. I don't think she's such a good idea anymore. I'm not sure why so many people that were inactive and just came back for a few weeks or the people who were the troublemakers decide to apply for staff.

f I could choose from the three, I think Elba is most suited to be a moderator if you look past her many "crimes" (member bashing, hacking, spamming and a great interest in Backstage)... But the problem is, who's to say she is really trustworthy?

I'm not going to get into the whole Elba situation, but I do feel that if she can't respect the staff, how will she represent us in a good light? I understand that people say she'd be a breath of fresh air, but aren't there other people who would be a breath of fresh air who don't have such negativity towards the staff? She's gotten into trouble... and I understand that shouldn't bias opinions about her, but I think the fact of how recent it is should.

Basically, the conflicts between you and Diana, and what was assumed to be disrespect towards the staff members. My only issue with that is Spencer did the same thing, yet they hired him. If you want to know why I am saying "they", it's because I didn't agree with a lot of decisions that were made.

We went back and forth several times with you and it was really difficult to decide. You were REALLY close, like on the edge close. A few things that were mentioned was that you haven't been here that long. Another is that as a moderator, we face a great deal of adversity. Something that is vital is that you really have a lot of strength. I see that coming forth from you, especially in recent posts. I really think that the next session you have an outstanding chance. Keep active, that is really important and make sure that you have a very clear "voice", meaning, you stand up for what you feel is right.

Does that make any sense?

Both of your interviews were good and impressive. Potential, blah blah blah! Breath of fresh air. You know.

Ultimately, we felt that you had potential and could bring some unique perspectives to Staff. It was also time to give people a chance. =)

Here's the thing guys and I know that there are a lot of people out here who are not going to agree. I'm going to let it out for you, be as candid as I can.

When looking at all the people that were applying, a lot of thought went into it. It wasn't just looking at so and so's application *nope, toss*, and so on. The entire team was looked at, both existing staff and potential new hires.

Believe me, not everyone on staff agreed with the final decision, I want you all to know that. This was by far the most interesting of hiring sessions I've seen here.

When I was personally looking at the applications, the interviews and looking through the forums I saw those that seemed like no brainer hires, I saw those that could definitely be a good staff member but were either to new too the site or felt like they needed more time, I saw those who danced on the edge of trouble (and seemed to enjoy it at times even xD) and those who sort of popped in out of nowhere and were either virtually inactive or sporadically posted.

What I tried to do is see how people were behaving and how they were communicating, particularly with staff. I was also looking at improvement as a whole. I was also looking at activity in general.

There wasn't anything personal involved at all and there were no favorites played. We took some chances on a few individuals and I really hope that they do well. I guess you can think that it's crap for me to say that, but I sincerely mean it. I think that it's great to try to give people a chance and see what they can do when the opportunity is given to them.

The reason I asked for people to PM is because I like the person to person interaction and sometimes that direct communication can really be nice.

This is by far not the last hiring session cB will see so there will be other opportunities. I just want you guys to know that this session was really a challenge, I think everyone on the then-current staff can agree on that.

I wish the new hires the best, I hope that the community will learn to accept them and I hope that those who were not hired this time around will stick around, contribute to the site and apply again.

Rachel i was impressed with bother her interview and application,but im going to have to stay neutral on her..

If I could be CERTAIN that Rachel would be back here and active constantly, I would hire in a hot minute. I don't have any other real qualms, other than minor reliability issues.

What an interview, Rachel. blink.gif Wow. I'm not sure about her. Her interview has got me baffled, but it seems like she's disappeared from her activity and has only come back for a little while.

I'd give Rachel a No. Great girl and everything, I just think she's definitely not as qualified as some of the other applicants.

Rachel: Still saying no. She's had too many chances. Her interview was excellent but they're just empty promises, just like last time. Give someone else a chance.

Rachel - Seriously she's been off and on I think she's had her chances. I also think she could be a little more active. Its like she popped out of nowhere. So I'm neutral on her.

Only one that really bothers me is the bolded. A lot of people on staff have stepped down and come back. And personally I feel like the last time I stepped down was a little forced but whateve.

Oh, and here's my positive:

I'd rather give Elba a chance than him if it came to choosing. At least she's funny occasionally.

When I look at the big picture, I see her being pretty decent when actually on staff, and doing a lot to calm down the bias accusations.

Im willing to work will elba if she can work with me...

I think we should hire Elba, based on the fact that it would be a really good way to dispell the whole 'bias' thing we have going on. No, it isn't the ideal way to select a candidate, but I think it is a good idea to have someone on staff who maybe 'represents' that little group a bit better than maybe the current staff do. I see why people have those concerns about Elba, and I think they're valid. But I think that she is fundamentally a good person, and would do well in discussions backstage, and in trying to mend the divide between members and mods.

Like I said, breath of fresh air. Which I think is what we need

Elba? My oh my. The girl is funny, intelligent and does bring an element of 'life' to the boards.

I like Elba and her interview. She definately makes the room brighter (is that the phrase?) I think it would be nice having her on the staff. Shes respected by a lot of people and she'll certainly be fun. I like how shes honest with the negative questions

The biggest reason you were not hired was because even though you post a little here and there, you were primarily inactive for quite a while. It truly seemed liked you recently came around. I'm not saying you did so because there was a hiring session, not at all. It was just the timing.

I would like to clear something up, just in case you were wondering. No one has any type of personal negative feelings for you, not at all. This was a very difficult hiring session because there were so many applicants. Seriously, when I saw them all I wasn't sure how were going to go about doing this because there was so many choices and so many honest to goodness excellent applications. At least I thought so.

Essentially, the staff make-up is a mix between a couple of rehires (like Frankie) and new folks. This round (and something I was personally advocating) I wanted to give new people, those who hadn't had much, if any experience on staff a chance.

All of this amounted to the final decision.

I really think that if you wanted to, and if were to stick around, the next round could be something really favorable for you. I also would like to commend you, applaud you (whatever they're calling it these days. I hate being a dorky old lady sometimes xD) for applying for both. I think it was a really different and unique way to apply. Also, your interviews were really great!

I hope you're not angry, I really do. This was sort of a long PM back, I hope that doesn't bug you. I just like to be as frank and as detailed as I can.

and well some of the other staff I think felt like their opinion wouldn't matter in the end no matter how big of fight they brought up. AC just PMed me back...so I'm waiting on his reply

... No, it wasn't like that.
They didn't ask anyone to give them a reason, they knew the general reason (from staff) about you not being hired and used that, instead of getting into personal reasons.
I don't think personal reasons should really be used during a hiring session. Bias = no good.

But yeah, I guess getting direct quotes from the hiring session thread backstage will help you to see that...

Well, I feel that I don't know you all that well. But anyway, I think you were pretty qualified for the Design Staff considering your activity in the Resource Center and your work in the queue in the past. I think the biggest concern with you was how you communicate with other people. It's kinda tough for me to describe, but maybe somewhere along the lines of aggressive and condescending. Though, looking through your recent posts, I'd say you're improving (though it could still use improvement).

Also, I doubt your incident with making that Intercourse username played much of a factor in you not being hired, if that's any of your concern.

Yea I made a new account because I couldn't get on my other account for some odd reason and I put an application for people staff on the other account..it was during a hiring period.

It was mostly a joke in which a few staff knew about and then it got blown out of proportion and a few mods thought of it is as more than what it was and said they lost trust and what not and ta da i was put on a leave for a month, tis' all. Not kicked off staff completely...although when I came back createblog just wasn't as fun and seemed like a big waste so I left completely mostly.

I come back every now and then.
