In the book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Dudley and Harry get attacked by dementors.

But the series explains how Muggles are not able to see dementors, yet Dudley does.

JK Rowling never explains this in the 6th or 7th book.

can anyone explain this?

he doesn't have to see them to feel the effects does he? wouldn't he see "painful" things in his life, or his worst fears or something along those lines?

well i don't think there's anything that permits muggles from feeling the effects of a dementor, they just can't see it. just experiencing it without seeing it would be enough to shake up dudley, esp since he's a little bitch anyway. i don't remember the book saying that dudley in fact saw them with his own eyes.

damn where's gryffindor-girl when u need her.

Dudley never saw the dementors, he felt them. When he and Harry returned to the house, he was convinced that Harry had been the one who was making him feel the way he did. Remember? Uncle Vernon was going to kick Harry's ass?
Aunt Petunia was the one who explained what a dementor was.
