Cannot Edit SideBar Options

I am using the butterfly layout, my username is Silverkinz. :) I am on s1 mode, I copy/pasted the layout into the right place, but I cannot edit the sidebar. The default username text followed by the default links would remain the same, even after editing it in the customization box on LJ. I finally got sick of it and completely deleted the navigation text, but I really just want to know how to edit the sidebar stuff. Please give me the "programming for dummies" explanation, since I am not good with CSS. :P

Also, how can I make it where I have the custom layout that I have, but with only the more recent posts showing up? Thanks!

See how there are three sidebar areas? I don't understand why nothing is showing up now. :( And I'd still like to know how to edit the number of entries per page. :3 Thank you!
