Texting is silent. If you haven't found a need to communicate silently, then give it a few years

I text AND call. I text when I'm in school and don't have enough time to have a full conversation. But I have other reasons for texting too.

I text sometimes just for like small details that only take like 2 seconds over a phonecall convo. much easier and also then I know I won't be bothering them if they're in something important. say like work or school
and.. I did it during school a lot too >__>; Or really, say something stupid that I normally wouldn't say over the phone.. like "Oh my god save me, my friend is listening to Hanson's new cd." which.. I did say today. But I like calling people sometimes to hear their voice so I know it's them. hahaa. Like boyfriend :D |

That sounds like something I would do. I'm not a very phone person. Its only for the purpose of my parents reaching. But hey, I have free texting so why not?

not as much in the states than in asia. i got bitched out by my friends at college for texting, since texting's expensive in the States. in hong kong/taiwan where i'm from, it's so much cheaper to text than talk on the phone. hence, the love of texting.
and, in japan, it's common courtesy to text when you're on the trains since talking's too loud. |

I personally like calling better. It's faster and more to-the-point. Other people don't seem to think so, though haha. Nobody ever answers when I call because they like to text more.

Texting is easier when
- giving information that needs to be remembered (dates, addresses, etc) - you're in a crowded or loud area - you're in a place that has to be quiet (library, class, theatre) - you intend to leave a message that requires no response such as "Please call me ASAP" or "Meet me at the park" I think it's incredibly stupid how people text when they can just call though. Seeing "was up" in my inbox makes me want to smack somebody. Everyone's so spoiled here, they don't realise that there are people who don't have texting plans. I only use it when it follows the above criteria. |

I equally text and call. Sometimes if I'm in public I'll text, because I think it might be a little rude to be blabbing on the phone in public. No one wants to hear that. I text a lot when I'm in class.

Who cares? It's their phone and there bills.
I however, call more then I text. It's because I don't have a text plan and I would have to pay each text. =X |

Eh... it depends on the phone. I wouldnt text if I had something like a flip phone. But if its something like a sidekick, then of course. Let me go crazy.

one time my mom was text with the babysitter we had a long time ago... and she was trying to tell my mom through text why she didnt want the job anymore. I think that's something best discussed over the phone or in person. I agree with what everyone's said, about texting for short, snappy info and a call for an actual conversation I do think the whole texting-for-everything-and-anything is getting a little out of control.. For example, a guy tried to ask out my friend through text.. I think it's rather pathetic, even though it is the easy way out, and better for someone with low confidence But what good is it? |
