But most of y'all fellas do. Two words. Hip Hop. What could it mean to a lot of people? First thing they might mention is hmm perhaps, rap music. That'll lead to the people's thoughts of rap music which would be mostly negative (trust me, I know rap is the most hated and controversial music in our country today) and they'll bash the culture of hip hop just from looking at the RAP MUSIC itself. Why? Rap is like hip hop's son. rap came from hip hop. Like I said, if people learn to strongly feel the lyrics in rap music, they'll give a bit of respect to it. But they just can't do it and it's usually the ignorant. Well, you're giving so much credit and love to hip hop saying all this great stuff about it.Then you undermine country music as if it wasn't as strong. You say most people think of Hip hop in a negative way but for example people hear country music and in a flash they think red necks and I say that in a subliminal way,not directed to you since I do not know how you're mind functions on that genre of music.Maybe you should learn to feel the lyrics in any other type of genre of music before saying hip hop this hip hop that. I'll admit I used think of hip hop in a negative way being as you said rap came from hip hop.I dislike both because in the videos now all they talk about is getting money, talking bout hoe's riding their d-ck,or saying I got shot.I know not all rap or hip hop or what ever songs talk about that. But if that's how people see it that's how they are going to judge it. QUOTE Cuz by just looking at it, you know hip hop artists deal with a lot of different areas in their lyrics. pain. what they struggled through in negative ways. how they re-act to certain shit that goes off. politics. violence. letting their emotions out on the mic. so many different things. it just has more in store for the audience than country. you know without even having to understand the music of country and such. You should really think before you speak, like you said, feel the lyrics and maybe you will respect country or any other genre of music more.Become a lyricist, learn the lyrics of any song in any type of genre in music and you will see people from hip hop are not the only ones who have suffered, nor dealt with a lot of different areas in their lyrics.Like I said people see and they judge. They will not take the time to listen to the lyrics in each and every hip hop song.Because you said just by looking at it,you know hip hop artist deal with a lot of different areas in their lyrics.Another person won't think that way. They will go and simply judge and maybe even say hip hop is crap.. |

Hip-hop is mother earth and in my infancy she holds me
Single parent she single handily shape and hold me When they tried to enslave me she train me how to set my soul free. Hip Hop is revolution. All that radio shit, that they claim is hip hop, honestly? I want a plague to kill all of them. They're all Uncle Toms, their music is shit. Real shit, f**k the rest -> http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...videoid=3103852 |

You got to know that REAL PEOPLE who like rap like rap because of the lyrics and poetry that's involved. Also the beats and how diverse it can be from Tupac to the Gym Class heroes. Ain't it interesting? It's just universal to me and may be to a lot of other people. Actually, I can say country is good too, and what do I have against it? Nothing. It tells stories just like rap does and involves all of the emotion. You just have to be open to listening to it and attentive to the lyrics. People just find Rap more interesting and it gets their attention more. They find it more FUN, EMOTIONAL, DEEP ETC. and they seem to get to the fact that they enjoy the stories more inside the lyrics of the songs than any other type of music. So I prefer rap but country is good too. Nothing wrong with liking them both! I'm a good dude! |

I love the art of hip hop. Yes some rap songs degrades women and talk about some violence but hip hop is much boarder than that like hip hop every genre has it's flaws. We have close minded people like Bill O'Reilly (Not only close minded when it comes to hip hop but most things) that puts rap down ever chance he gets. But like you stated he never mention Metal music, some metal music promotes satanism but not all because I listen to it. He never mention these video games. A long time ago a little baby by the age of two went to day care and had a gun and shot a little girl his age and expected her to get back up. That's a good example of the damage video games did because the little dude get shot he get another life. That kid didn't understand that it's just an video games and not real.
What I am saying is hip hop isn't all the blame. But I do agree with some of you and the topic starter(Some things you stated). |

I know you keep saying that you have nothing against country or whatever, but how come it always sounds like you're putting rap as the superior genre? Just wondering. |

I know you keep saying that you have nothing against country or whatever, but how come it always sounds like you're putting rap as the superior genre? Just wondering. Rap music in general.. has taken over United States. I've been to Kentucky and seen Redneck wiggers for God sakes lol. Rock n' roll's technically dead with all these groupie pop artists that blend metal with backstreet boys type music, country died long ago because of mainstream and their depressed lyrics about their dogs dying, their wife and kids leaving him, or fallin in love blah blah (no offense to country of course) and crapp music like Brittney Spears, Nelly, and that real serious wigger Fergi (how ever her name is spelled) makes people laugh... they're a bunch of jokestores. Plus... hip hop is worldly known. Don't get me wrong though, I listen to Metal, Hip Hop (not mainstream), Punk, Classical, old school R&B/Jazz, and oldies like The Zombies/Beatles. The music you listen to on MTV/BET/VH1/Radio is crap... it's all shit, same shit different person/voice... makes me wanna throw up. Just sayin... |

i feel you on what u said, hip hop is not life for everyone cuz people may not like or appreciate the lifestyles of hip hop ... but usually those are ones who think of it on a negative way and manner like gang violence, mugging, and murdering IMO, Hip Hop isn't life for me, no genre is for that matter. But It has nothing to do with me thinking negatively about it. I understand it, and yes It has great background(and so do other genres aswell) I just don't believe that it's what some of us live for etc.(Including Hip Hop as a lifestyle.) |

Every genre of music can touch different areas. Every genre of music has the capability of being blamed for the actions of those who listen to it.
I honestly don't care what people listen to, if I don't like... I'll let you know and you can turn it off. Every genre of music has stereotypes that come with it. I honestly don't think that anyone should make a type of music their lifestyle; that's ignorant. |

No doubt, music is good... if you're bottled up in emotions and music helps you release and relieve you... then use it! No matter what. |

Don't get Hip-Hop and Gangsta Rap confused Hey Jason--if they don't like it, chuck up the deuce Don't try to force it down their throats...let people have their own opinion i agree. and first of all, your telling people that it didn't start with 'laffy taffy'. then why don't you tell 'em the whole story, since your already into it? sugarhill baby, that's all everyone needs to know (: |

Instead of going on and on about how theres story in hip hop, and pain and strife, as if other genres of music dont have that, why dont you actually talk about the history of hip hop, and where its roots come from. I haven't read one thing in your posts that actually educates us about hip hop. You dont think other genres of music have pain and suffering in them? You dont think there are politics in other genres? Excuse me. What about Rock? Jazz? The Blues? R&B? If a song in ANY genre isnt about love, its about two things: Pain and suffering, or politics. Unless of course you count the %60 of the current generations hip hop that just talks about hoes and how much money you got, and shooting people in the street. Hip hop is quite possibly the ONLY genre of music that has such a huge percentage of songs about violence and sex and vulgarity. Now dont get me wrong. I am a hip hop enthusiast. I listen to mostly hip hop. This generations hip hop? No. OLD SCHOOL? Yes. f**k Yes. I'm talking about the early 90's. |

Hip hop is quite possibly the ONLY genre of music that has such a huge percentage of songs about violence and sex and vulgarity. Don't forget about Metal. Matel talks about sex and drugs and partying all night and women and satanism (rap music don't talk about satanism) and violence too. In rap music. The talking about violence and women has died down since maybe 4 years ago. I should know, I'm a hard core hip hop listener and I listen to the rap music NOW. Yes there is a couple songs about women. But most songs now is talking about relationships and dances (i.e The Aunt jackie, The Superman, Dutty Wine, Heel Toe, 1,2 step, Chicken Noodle Soup, etc, etc). |
