i've been looking around everywhere for tutorials but i can't seem to find one that buttonizes text like this:

uhhh... by buttonize, you mean the somewhat, sort of, kinda near 3-dish look? That's called emboss/embevel, I believe? Try looking for that? They also have a dropshadow 9first one, anyway) that will enance that look.

That's definitely a combination of inner bevel (set the smoothness up to like 20 and the depth and width at like 1 or 2) and a dark gray dropshadow.
